Why do we even ask political questions in press conferences concerning sports?

There's a reason why most coaches stick to coach speak and just give platitudes, it avoids situations like this.
She should have just said, "I will say the same thing I said in the spring, I really hope she makes it home ok and as soon as possible, but I'm here today to talk about LSU", even if she doesn't believe it, and this is all over.

Her comments are great for recruiting smh. Could've said we are thinking of her and praying for her. But hey she a hero to the commie government boot-lickers on the Rant, that worship authoritarian governments that lock people up for nearly 9 years for a plant. Those cheering for Griner's imprisonment are the greatest threat to American freedom. Just really sickos cheering for someone being locked up in a foreign jail because they disagree with her politics.

I disagree.
This reporter has the dovetailed incentives to both raise his profile through controversy as well as push a narrative on behalf of Dawn Staley. He's not going to let this go. The best route to take is to allow him to keep his media credential but never acknowledge his presence again. Let him be there for all the press conferences, but don't answer any of his questions and don't let him interview players directly.
To be honest, this is how every reporter from Gannett should be treated.

More athletes and coaches should handle political questions from wormy reporters looking for a headline this way. I’ve been saying this you are not obligated to answer every question the media asks. You don’t give your game plan out to them why should your politics be any of their business
