Duke - yes the biggest obstacle facing Ian right now is the expansive wind field. Will certainly take some time for these winds to constrict.

Melbourne, FL (near the current center) showing winds of 20 to 25 MPH sustained...

They're interviewing a guy that rode the storm out on his boat and the boat is in pieces all over the ground.

Interviewer: Where is your boat?
Guy: You're standing on it, all these pieces of wood

Can’t imagine having evacuated and then seeing your house on fire on the news with no one being able to do anything about it.

I was listening on drive to work and they were interviewing a guy from one of the power companies in Florida.

He said getting power back to places hardest hit like Naples is gonna take a good bit of time cause a good bit of that will likely be an actual complete rebuild due to all the salt water surge damage.

That’s what we experienced after Laura, pretty much LCH south to the coast. Some of those places will take several weeks to get restored. Winds that high can cause high line structures to collapse as we saw here.

They’ll use the first few days to assess, develop a plan, then deploy. Basically, they’re looking at every power fed structure, pole, etc. I struggle to comprehend the scale of that.

You got any thoughts on that late strengthening phase?

After some looking last night, I guess it was positioned right entrance of the upper jet.

Thats the best I can figure, along with maybe some frictional interaction as it got close to Florida helped the center contract some.

Holy shite.. Cape Coral.... 1000's of homes all linked by canals... Every home there must be inundated with water.

They are interviewing some Cape Coral residents now and somehow many of those homes stayed dry.
