wanna bet?

In 2054 this village will not exist
Climate change is a serious matter and in some places, like this corner of Wales, in the United Kingdom, it can have dramatic consequences. By 2054 water will completely flood this little village called Fairbourne.

They said this about 2012. Then 2019.

Basically it's total horse shite.

BTW Fairborne is below sea level at high tide. That's why they have relied on sea wall and levees there since for centuries, just like New Orleans.

It started as an outpost and was developed as a port on a marsh and is now subsiding, just like New Orleans.

So claiming it will be under water in 2054 is dishonest. If not for that wall and system of levees, it would have been under water in the 19th century. Again - just like New Orleans.

Aren't NOLA and Manhattan supposed to have been underwater for 20 years now?

We only have 12 more years until there are just 5 more years before we have a scant 7 years before it'll only be 10 years before we have to act in the next 3 years or there will only be 8 more years until....

Didn't they have signs that said Glacier National Park would be glacier free by 2020?

If that little seaside village is gonna be underwater, won't the Obamas' seaside house be underwater also?

Article is being overly dramatic.

That's a levee protected town that was built on a salt water marsh. Heavy structures like buildings and levees are going to sink without constant maintenance and intervention.

Soil dynamics and economic collapse are almost certainly going to claim this one. Not climate change.

That's a crying shame. Beautiful, idyllic location. The irony is that Wales was known in past generations for its coal mining and coal-fired power plants. Tragicly, their former transgressions may lead to this sorry outcome.

Is it too late to start building a seawall to "save the Wales"?

We build cities in low lying areas and freak out when sea level changes threaten them. Yet we have known for a long time that sea levels rise and fall. Is the government going to ban new construction in threatened areas?

Someone needs to tell them that cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good. When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move, ooh.

Google Earth is a wonderful app. It allows anyone to look back in time. For instance, this village, in 1985 looks similar to 2020 in terms of water level.

I would have expected some drastic water level changes between then and 2020. But what do I know.

I remember back in the 80's, Louisiana was losing a football field of land every minute, or hour I can't remember, wouldn't the gulf be up to Baton Rouge by now?

My favorite part of these climate doomsayers is how easily they place the date JUST far enough into the future to be close enough to feel like you ought to worry about it, but far enough out that when the date approaches and frick all has happened they can adjust it out another 20 or so years and the last group who bought the fear will have forgotten/died and a new crop will bite the the new shiny hook.

I think they may have learned this from religious end of the world types who always managed to find some new text lying around that made their last prediction but has super confirmed the newest one...so get ready!!!!
