The dislike button is still indeed on the trailer video though.

Doesn’t mean they didn’t disable dislikes. Can’t remove it for only one video

Why do people dislike the movie?

Or is Youtube trying to make it seem like muh racism? Or did Disney do something woke again?

It’s not a belief.

Do we need to list out all of the differences between Hans Christian Andersen's story and Disney's version?

I don’t think black panther is a good equivalent. Being black is part of his character and back story

I always use Blade as my example.

His race doesn't really matter but we all know he's black. Always has been and always will be. I'd be just as mad if they made Blade a white dude.

Given all of your infatuation with being perpetually offended, I sincerely doubt the "balls" part.

Now, in casting if they said “it has to be a black girl”, then that is 100% wrong

You are very naïve if you don't think that's exactly what happened.

That would be similar to Thor. Being a Norse god making Thor black would make zero sense.

Yes. This isn’t a sweet little tale. The original is pretty dark. Most of his stuff is.

That being said, I don’t fundamentally have any issue with Ariel being black. It’s musical theater and it’s pretty common to cast characters based upon their talent to play non traditional roles. Mary Martin played Peter Pan for how many years on broadway? Aaron Burr is not a black man, etc.

But I think we all know that’s not what’s going on here. That’s not why Disney did this.

Because it’s cultural appropriation Which I thought wasn’t allowed in the woke world

I am continually amazed how dumb this board is (South has the lowest IQ and educational ratings of any other US region. I know how much this board loves facts over feelings, so there you go).

This is literally not cultural appropriation. The made up mermaid from a 90’s cartoon movie is not a meaningful/significant part of “white culture”. It can be argued it isn’t a part of white culture at all.

But this board loves using buzz words that they don’t quite understand, so everyone eats it up.

I miss the days when this board was annoyed with everyone being offended. Now this board is offended at the skin color of a fictional character in a kids movie. Horseshoe theory to perfection.

t's the force feeding and blatant over representation of 13% of the population that grinds people's gears.

Over representation of black characters in Disney movies? There's been ONE black princess in their history.

Either way, just because black folks only account for 13% of the population doesn't mean those children should be denied the opportunity to see themselves represented in various mediums. This is what's actually important.

Make stupid decisions based solely on pushing minority shite at the expense of the fan base and the final product.

In general, it is a racial version of stupidity done by other media companies.

They will buy a property and slap the name on a totally unrelated film to get extra eyes on it then wonder why people get pissed.

World War Z and Jem are two such properties getting this treatment. WWZ was a success but not the same property as the book. Jem was a failure and it was basically a Justin Bieber biopic with the serial numbers filed off using a few names from the Jem cartoon.
