Each year, an estimated 7,000–8,000 people are bitten by venomous snakes in the United States, and about 5 of those people die. The number of deaths would be much higher if people did not seek medical care.
I'll never understand the need to kill an animal because I was scared of something so infinitesimally remote happening. More over, killing an animal of any kind and not using it in some fashion is immoral to me. Skin it or eat it or both. Cutting the rattles off to show your buddies doesn't count.
Hell, just move it. I've relocated plenty of copperheads and rattlesnakes in my neighborhood. We have a ton of copperheads here.

What are the odds of permanent damage or losing a digit? I've known plenty of people that have lost dogs to snakes.
I never kill non-poisonous snakes though.

Look at photos of rattlesnake leg bites and the
damage their venom does to flesh and muscle.
Bad scars for life.

Nice Timber rattler. We get HUGE ones up in Mississippi. 4-5 feet with 8 to 12 rattles and a button were the last 2.

I will take a mouse and rat infestation over a venomous snake infestation every single time. Choot ‘em

Some guys have all the luck.
I would be absolutely giddy if one of those found its way into my yard.

Thinking this was a mostly innocent nonvenomous garden variety yard snake right?
Yes, that would have made for a good pet.

I’m guessing you don’t count insects as “animals”.
