Of all of these, I am most excited for Willow. Love it when they bring back original casts!

Oh, and LOL at The Little Woke Mermaid. Such a woke cheese-fest. I’m perfectly fine with leads of all races and cultures, but why why why mess up an original by turning it woke? Do something ORIGINAL or redo the classic as it was intended. Stop frickin virtue signaling!!!! It never goes well.

So what have they changed besides the lead actors race? Which you claim doesn’t bother you

It's about subverting the source material in the name of virtue signaling and pandering or muh feels. Don't be dense. Nobody is racist for wanting an Ariel like in the original.

So you want an Ariel who is actually named Marina, has dark hair, includes her normal and accepted journey to the surface, and makes her an antagonist when she plots to kill the prince after she realizes she's given up a long life for a very short lifespan with a dude who doesn't really care about her?

I suspect this Ariel will be very very much like the previous Disney version. The subversion of the source material is making Ariel an idiot who cares only about marrying this prince.

You mean like taking the “source material” that was originally about a dark haired girl that sacrifices her tongue and lifespan to gain legs in order to marry a prince or be killed, that upon failing to marry him, she then must commit murder in the name of the sea witch and cover herself in his blood to not be killed, but instead, wrecked with guilt and shame, decides to commit suicide instead.

That the source material you’re pissed about being altered? No, of course not. You’re just mad about the black person being cast in a role that was animated as a white woman in the Disney bastardization.

Obviously I was talking about the original Disney film based on the story. You fricking idiot, but go on and tell me what I wanted you little pussy.

I'm actually not mad. I don't really get upset about movies I'm not going to watch. I'm sure you were bitching about that Disney bastardization in 1992.

I know you think you're cute playing the other side, but you don't even do that well. It was entertaining at first, but you've worn out your appeal.

I didn't tell you what you wanted. I'm noting that Disney heavily subverted a source material when making the 80s animated movie. They haven't subverted their material, as you mentioned they are doing. It's still going to be about a princess mermaid wanting to bang a prince. If the subversion isn't just about skin color of a character, then you should make it clear from where that subversion is coming.

This thread has several people mentioning both the woke subversion and that the skin skin color isn't the problem. That's cool. What in that trailer subverted anything from the cartoon?

As usual, I apologize for not joining in the chorus of shouted, virtue-signaled anger about "subversion" and "wokeness" and Hollywood elites when watching teasers that reveal none of those things, and for then calling out a few idiots who get mad at those things that they definitely didn't see.

Get mad when it comes out and you have the actual, though likely unattainable for many of you, possibility of knowing what the fuk you're talking about.

Or you could get annoyed with the actor's vocals in that teaser. That's something we could actually hear, like, with our own senses, without any assumptions about why or how it could ruin a "beloved" cartoon you barely remember, and could tell is bad. After watching a short teaser for a movie you don't care about, will never see, but about which you'll continue yelling on the internet, having reservations about those vocals would be legitimate.

No, cause I don’t give a shite about adaptations not forever being 100% adherent to their source material, and certainly don’t give a shite about the race of the characters being changed. Can’t say the same for the “I’m not racist but I really can’t stand black people being cast in things white people used to be in” crowd. Especially when they laughably say it’s about being true to the “source material” when the source material was nothing like the adaptions from it

I mean melting over a shitty live action Little Mermaid adaption because of black casting.

Jesus, the level of self misery a person must be in their lives to constantly feel the need to whine about this shite lol

I have zero issue with the Ariel casting. But man, the trailer looks so dark. The cartoon was so lit up and colorful.

I know the ocean is actually pretty dark in real life. But for the sake of a movie, can we not have the ocean be extremely dark.

I’d rewatch it. The Little Mermaid’s ocean is largely drawn in dark tones. It’s not all “Under the Sea” which was very bright. It uses rays of light to come through the dark animation. It also differentiates the darkness of Ariel being under the ocean vs the brightness of the land. This is greatly to the film’s benefit in establishing its tone. Here’s “Part of Your World” and tell me if I’m wrong.

Dislikes (1.2 million +) over 2x Likes for the Lil Mermaid trailer.

* This was a day or so ago. Guessing the numbers are 500k likes to 1.5 million dislikes

YouTube has now intentionally hid the dislikes, but if you use a certain algorithm you can still see the dislikes.
