Wasn't Elrond married to Galadriel daughter? How are they so similar in age in this show?

Elves don't age like Men, they are immortal. Once you hit 30 or so, you kinda stay there for eternity, unless you get killed. I've read some bits here and there that suggest things like torture and other heavy stress can take a toll, maybe that's why Celebrimbor (being Feanor's kin) looks older.

And yes, Galadriel is older than Elrond... by over a thousand years.

Even Jackson cast a slightly older actor to play Elrond to give him some gravitas.

Idk if our brains would constantly be able to remind ourselves of the age difference if they all looked the same age.

The ents watching the meteor fall, I love little 5 second scenes like that.

I really liked that short part as well, those kind of details really help immerse you into the world, which I feel the first two episodes have been absolutely top notch at.

Other than that, I hate the harfoots and I hate the forced interracial relationships

Why the absolute frick would there be a black dwarf? They don’t see the sunlight for 99% of their lives, it’s forced bullshite

I honestly don't understand this kind of criticism. If I am hearing you correctly you are saying that you only want white people in the show. Like, I hear you about the sunshine, but when I'm watching the show I'm not looking at pigment and thinking oh shite that doesn't match what the fricking sun would do to generations of a race that's so inaccurate. That seems a bit petty don't you think?

I personally thought that Disa played one hell of a dwarf, and not for one second did her skin tone pull me out of the world. Now, if you were to complain that she didn't have a beard (Like Tolkein's female dwarves)... well you didn't.

The reason some people are bothered is because we have a frame of reference from 20 years ago with the LotR trilogy and there were only white people, and then all of the sudden there’s these prequels and they’re there. It’s obviously forced.

However I think publicly making it known this bothers you is dumb.

Some observations:

1. Why are people hating on Elrond? I really like the actor and character so far

2. Galadriel’s story has been the worst part of the show. A lot of ridiculous scenes IMO

3. OMLandshark and CPLSU or whatever need the ban hammer. They are honestly 10x worse than Ham Solo.
I’ve read the silmarillion and consider myself a pretty big Tolkien fan but you two need to understand that this show wasn’t made for you and nobody gives a frick what you think it should be. Maybe instead of pissing your pants on the movie board you should write letters to the Tolkien family to let them know that they’re a disgrace to their great-uncle. Oh wait, they don’t give a frick what you think either.

4. It’s obvious at this point that they will only be using Tolkien’s works as a baseline, but what did you expect? Five seasons and they only have rights to the appendices iji so of course they need to be creative. That’s not a bad thing either. Tolkien was far better at building worlds than actual storytelling and had a habit of lingering on relatively insignificant things. It’s part of the charm of his writing but it doesn’t transfer to film well which is why Peter Jackson chose to dramatize it a bit.

If the films/series were made exactly like the written works, they’d essentially be documentaries. I have no problem seeing if these guys can craft a solid, exciting, story with the basis Tolkien has created.

I cannot imagine caring about this. It’s one thing to change the races of characters that already exist and have been described by Tolkien but they’re simply creating new characters. Like seriously, who cares?

wanted to expand on Elrond a bit.

People complaining that Elrond is too charismatic, but wouldn’t that make sense? They actually mention it in the show but Elrond at this point has not seen much darkness and has mostly known peace. It would make sense he’s a bit more jovial now than he after 1500 years of war

When I saw the opening picture of him they released before the show came out, I thought... no way this guy is Elrond. After seeing the actor, he is certainly young Elrond.

Ehhh, Elrond had seen plenty of darkness, had one of the more fricked up childhoods in popular literature. Consider: the Sons of Feanor killed his maternal grandparents and two uncles (on his mother's side). Then, they attack his home while he's a child, after his father had sailed away to seek help. They attempt to kill his mother but she escapes (although he would see that as suicide until he later learns the truth), and seize him and his brother.

And yet compared to many elves that’s nothing. Galadriel even talks about in the show that he’s too carefree because he hasn’t seen the darkness that she has. He was essentially an infant during the war of wrath and never had to fight Morgoth’s forces.

In LOTR he gives the impression that he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. It makes sense he wouldn’t now.

Did anyone else catch this carving of Luthien and Huan? Some of the details in the first 2 are simply amazing.

Who changed the races of characters in Tolkiens world, and why. Let's start there.

Watched the first two episodes last night. Wasn’t perfect but it was pretty good. Loved the dwarf stuff and the actress who plays Nori is great in the role

No, it's that he (and Celebrimbor) look like scrawny, gay yuppies from the 80's, wearing their grandmothers' nightgowns.

Watched E2. It's better than E1, but Galadriel is still pretty awful. The overacting is off the charts as well, which I kinda saw coming in the first episode, especially from the Harfoots. They don't have Jamaican accents, as some have claimed, but their acting is still cartoonish and way over the top.

The show continues to look great, though. I don't get why some are saying it looks bad.

The Harfoots are over the top. They’re hobbit attributes x 100. I actually like them in this.

The Galadriel story line is bad and cliche. Otherwise, no issues. Elrond is fine.
