Putter Recommendations

Getting ready to start looking for a new putter. I’ve always used the mallet style. Any recommendations?

All the brands make good clubs. Just find one that your eyes like and fits your price range.
Spider has been a really popular mallet for awhile, fwiw.

I’ve purchased a few Toulon putters off Callaway Preowned that are basically brand new. A Seattle and Las Vegas. Both are excellent. Really like the stroke lab shaft. Ended up buying a 2022 San Diego (blade) as well because I couldn’t miss with it in the store. It’s still in the bag for now.

Phantom X 5s, if you like mallet style.

Idk how long you’ve been playing but my advice would be think about your entire playing career and one putter from your past should stick out as being the most successful, maybe type and find a mint version of that on eBay instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. If you are already playing with that putter, then just go get the most expensive murdered out mallet that Evnroll makes lol

Try a “torque balance” putter.
Just so I can hear about it.
LAB, Edel, and Axis1 make them.

Do a fitting to put your mind at ease.
FWIW a lot of fitters like the Odyssey Toulon line of putters, but they are like $450. Most fitters are anti-Cameron, but there could be bias there based on their popularity with golf fans at large.
You can't go wrong with Ping or Odyssey on average. If you are a MyGolfSpy reader they liked the PXG Bat Attack mallet as their best mallet this year.

Yeah, each brand has so many models to choose from. Trying to narrow down is the challenge. My price range $300 max.

I am one who swears by the taylormade spider. I have tried to replace it with a lot of different brands but I always end up going back to it. I have the old spider tour, but the new spider x models are very similar. You can find one on 2nd swing for under $300 for sure.

Honestly, this isnt bad advise
Something more affordable would be a Ping or Odyssey. I love Ping putters.

Go to your nearest PGA Superstore and roll a bunch of different models for hours and change your mind every time you make a few.
That's what I do at least

I wish I had a Superstore nearby. The only places I got is Dicks and a couple local pro shops. Since I got a 4 day weekend coming up, I might swing by those places to see what they got.
I think two putters I do want to try is the TM Spider Tour and the Ping Sigma Tyne Stealth. Really want to try that Phantom X but I know that is way over my price range

I know a few people that have owned the blade style and live them. I bought an Anser at a flea market for 20 bucks about 20-25 years ago and I struggled with it. Never tried any of the mallet models. I’ve always like how the Pings looked.

My practice putter is an old Ping O blade. I only use it on my perfect putter mat.
My gamer is a Ping Ketch (mallet) I can use a blade out on the course.

CoachChappy - so you practice with a toe hang putter and then game a face balanced flat stick?

Yep, I know it sounds crazy, but I am really working on strike on the mat. The blade shows me if Im manipulating the face. This is on the mat only.
I practice on the greens with my gamer.

Gotcha. It’s just a completely different stroke between the putters. I’m curious how that works out for you. I’m a big Dave Pelz fan and just know he says choose one or the other. Toe hang with open/close stroke. Or face balanced which he recommends - being a straight back and straight thru stroke.

Thats how I do it. I have no idea if the old O Blade is a tow hang. I keep it square to the target and strike it.
As far as how it works out for me, I can putt. I cant do too much else, but I can putt. If I 3 putt, something really bad happened.
