This is always the stupidest comparison I think I ever year. The best player of his time would’ve always been the best player. Bert Jones of the 70s would’ve been Bert Jones in 2022. Jim Brown would be the best back now if he was 19yrs old in 2022. Every player of yesteryear is still the best , they’re all on a level playing field in their time.

This is probably closest.
Hodson not getting enough credit here for how good he was at LSU ( not talent, not NFL, but at LSU).
4 time 1st team All -SEC. Several SEC records. Thats a pretty dominant college career.

That's tough.
I will say I think Mauck is is too low on most lists. He lead the team in 3 wins (2 SEC titles and a national title) that changed the entire program. Plus it is not his fault Saban had him still in the Florida game up 4 scores in 2002 (see Bama/Miss St 2019)

Matt Flynn and Matt Mauck achieved some great things at LSU, but truth be told, they were middling-to-average QBs who were blessed with great supporting casts.
How much did either of them accomplish in the pros?

Apparently you never watched Bert Jones when he was healthy for the Colts. He was very good. He was very good at LSU when he would play. McClendon was married to the dual QB system or people would reallytalk about him.

Hodson no 2 for sure
I agree. Hodson is quite underappreciated. He held pretty much every passing record at LSU before the Burrow era.
Actually Hodson is still LSU's statistical pass leader, but that was over 4 seasons v. 2 for Burrow.

Bert Jones, the Ruston Rifle. He had the prettiest pass we have ever seen. He could throw it a country mile on a rope. He would have been incredible in a modern spread offense.
He’s also a cool dude and a great bird dog man/quail hunter.

Nelson Stokley was fantastic until he hurt his knee. He moved the offense and he I inspired confidence in the whole offense. A Great WB!

Colts played for 3 AFC Titles with Jones. Problem was the Steelers or Raiders were on the other side.

I'm strictly talking about their college careers here not professional. I guess I should have mentioned that, my bad. Bert Jones definitely has had the better pro career of all of them.

nah
The program has come a long way from when a Hodson was something exceptional.

Burrow
Hodson
Jones
Russell
Davey/Flynn
Hodson threw for over 9,000 career yards in an era where most good to great QBs threw for 6 or 7 thousand in a career. He held the SEC all-time passing yardage mark at the end of his career.
Hodson would throw for at least 3,500 a year in today's offenses.

My favorite with Joe is Warren Rabb. Undefeated NC, who was the 15th pick in the draft. He has represented the LSU program in aclass way for a long time. Others may have had better pro careers but he is the epitome of what LSU is for me.

Who would you have in your next 4? I know we probably have done this before but after reading through the topic with Tommy Hodson and Mickey Guidry, I felt compelled. Exclude YA Tittle please, to far back different game. Mine. 2) Jamarcus Russell. 3) Tommy Hodson. 4) Rohan Davey's. 5) Bert Jones
Bert Jones outside the top 3 is absurd. He was held back by a stubborn coach and once he got to the pros earned the NFL MVP on an average team he took to the playoffs.
If you want to argue Tommy Hodson was a better college QB with the skins to prove it, I could live with it.
Taking out Tittle, it's Burrow.....Hodson/Jones (or vice versa).....probably Davey......Flynn
