“Today was our best day in terms of playing with speed, practicing with a purpose,” Kelly said. “You got the sense today that they were getting ready to play a game. It was clean, efficient.

“You had defensive linemen running across the field pursuing the football, it just didn’t feel like a check the box camp day. They did it in the manner that I like to see practice being run.”

There’s a sense when watching LSU practice that this is a team that has embodied what its head coach has wanted out of everyone, from the coaching staff, to the trainers and of course, the players. The Tigers are zoning in on a number of key position battles at quarterback, along the offensive line and in the secondary just to name a few.

Love everything about this! This is how great leaders work, finally. No more “anyone know where I can find Joe Brady’s offense?”

Now, let’s see same application to the classroom and diplomas!!!!

I am having a vasectomy on Wednesday so I can't do $hit all weekend, meaning waiting for Sunday night is going to be brutal while my nuts are in pain

Kelly puts a huge focus in the mental aspect of the game. Like Aranda.

In the access to practice the media’s had and videos they’ve posted, you can tell their practices are run extremely efficiently and with a tempo we’ve never seen. Hester and and a couple of other former NFL guys have commented that it’s run like a professional practice. They’re not out there just winging it—everything is extremely organized and done with a purpose. There’s no wasted energy. Which is gonna make for a much more prepared and cohesive team than others in the same spot as them having a brand new staff with so many new players.

I think we’re gonna come out of the gate surprisingly strong and much more ready to go than expected. I think the depth eventually catches up to us toward the end of the season, and we probably still wind up 8-4ish—maybe 9-3 if we just get extremely lucky with few injuries to key players, or 7-5 if we don’t—but it will look very impressive either way. They will not take the field underprepared, and I think we’ll be in every game, including Bama. The record may be disappointing, but I think the product will be impressive.

I hope so. My biggest concern is how quickly the new staff and players acclimate. I'm certainly more confident that Kelly will do everything possible to get the team ready vs the old regime, but there are a lot of new starters and coaches so a slow start is still a real possibility.

We definitely can’t blame all of our problems on goofball coaching anymore. I have no idea how Kelly will do, but I do know he’s a smart dude. It feels nice

I think they’ve already acclimated, considering the circumstances. Every school is gonna have a ton of new players that haven’t played together in this era of college football. We may have a few more due to the coaching change, but their practices are so organized and efficient that they are gonna make up ground. They are getting much more good work/reps in in a 2-hour practice than probably any teams besides Bama, Georgia, and maybe a handful of others.

And I guarantee the coaches are practicing together without the players on how they are gonna work together and communicate during the games. There’s a lot of smart guys on the staff, and they’ve no doubt put in countless hours meeting about how to work together to run the game.

Kelly spoke the other day about why he hired Denbrock, and he said they both want to run the same thing, an uptempo offense where the QB gets the ball out of his hands quick and into the playmakers hands, and he wants to push the ball down the field. Not only are they on the same page there, but they’ve worked together so much that they have a short-hand where BK says do this, and Denbrock knows exactly what he means. Not to say the offense is going to be great, but they’re damn sure not gonna be bumbling over themselves like Peetz all flustered and not getting the play call in until there’s only 5 seconds left on the play clock.

I also think we underestimate how smart House is, and how valuable his 3 years in the NFL with the Chiefs under Andy Reid was. And his time under Stoops at Kentucky. I’m not saying it’s gonna translate to a ton of wins, but I have the utmost confidence that the staff will be extremely prepared and will have the players as prepared as they can possibly be given the circumstances. Of course there will be some busted coverages early, some miscommunication, etc…But I think it will get corrected very quickly.

Of course they’re not gonna be as well oiled out the gate as they will be later in the season. But no team will. I mean, your concern is certainly valid—I could be completely wrong—and that’s why I think the Florida State and Mississippi State games may be the 2 most important games of the season. We HAVE to start 4-0. Have to. And I think we will. I’ll go so far as to say not only will we beat FSU, we will look sharper than them, despite their having already played a game. I think our staff is that elite and will use that UCLA debacle from last year to have our guys super locked in going into next week. Hell, it sounds like they already are.

But I’m not all pumping sunshine and rainbows. That back 2/3 of the season is brutal, and even the position groups that are the strength of our team lacks numbers. We may have the best WR rotation in the conference if not the country. What if Boutte goes down and Nabers or Bech are nicked? Jenkins, Thomas, and Hilton are good/can be good, but that’s a big drop off. Then we’re counting on Lacy and…Ibiata to take over against Ole Miss, Bama, Arkansas? What if Cain—who I’m not even convinced is much above average—tweaks something? Mason Taylor turns an ankle? Maason Smith? BJ? There are significant drop offs at some key positions. Hell, Dellinger might be the most invaluable guy on the team. What if he gets rolled up and twists a knee and is out for a couple games?

And I’m not talking about catastrophic, season-ending injuries, just the typical ones that happen over the course of every football season, especially in current SEC. We could literally lose any of the 8 SEC games we play. We could also win any of the SEC games we play. The back half is just so unpredictable because of the inevitable injuries. The football gods may smile down on us and we make it through relatively unscathed. Or we could hit a serious rough patch. That’s why the start is so crucial. The coaches know it, and I believe they’ve made it abundantly clear the players do too, and it appears they’ve bought in.

There are a huge number of unknowns with this team, but if Kelly gets his system in place quickly and most of our transfers pan out this team could be significantly better than pre-season predictions.

I know I'm overly optimistic, but Kelly sure seems to have made all the right moves so far and has a solid grasp on how to get this team ready to compete. The final piece for me with regards to Kelly was if the players would buy into his style of coaching and early indications are the players are responding and locked in. LSU is going to sneak up on a lot of teams this fall.

When I had my vasectomy my doctor wanted me to rest the rest of the day and I was good to go. I had little pain. I hope yours goes well.

I actually see it the opposite, barring injuries.

O-Line & QB will continue to improve as Season goes on.

Has it been announced if Denbrock and House are coaching from the field or box?
