I have about 6 of them.

1: Black Sabbath going from Ozzy to Dio.

2: Judas Priest going from Halford to Ripper.

3: Anthrax going from JB to John Bush

4: Motley Crue going from Vince to John Corabi

5: Van Halen going from Roth to Hagar.

6: AC/DC going from Scott to Johnson.

All of those bands replaced a singer that was icons with the band or just flat out legends and all time greats. Yet all still put out awesome music and never lost a beat. I would say Motley Crue and Anthrax got way better imo.

The only one that comes to mind is Ben E. King replacing Clyde McPhatter in The Drifters.

Maybe David Ruffin kind of stepping up and taking the lead role of The Temptations from Paul Williams and Eddie Kendricks.

They weren't "just as good or better" during the period of time that Tom Johnson was gone.

That little dude who replaced Steve Perry in Journey sounded pretty decent.

Uh you seemed to like metal and did not include the #1 example of this in Iron Maiden. I did not dislike ACDC with Johnson but in my ears was never to the level of Bon Scott ACDC.

If you look in the dictionary there's a picture of Sammy Hagar by the word "nope".

Pink Floyd - Barrett to Gilmour

I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been mentioned already.

DLR was in the same class as Vince Neil. The girls and the dorky guys liked him when he was young, then realized how talentless he was when he got old and ugly. Sammy wanted to bring VH to a harder sound, with both of them playing guitar, but EVH was into the synthesizers and ballads. Anybody with a brain knows everything VH did was what EVH wanted to do

None of your examples were just as great or even better, imo.

These are the only 2 that I'll allow discussion on.

While facetious, you actually nailed the answer. They put out 3 albums before Steve Perry joined. Steve Perry took them to the top.

Genesis is another acceptable answer. I absolutely prefer the Peter Gabriel version, but they put out some good songs and became an absolute hit farm with Phil Collins at the front.
