Help ID'ing my grass

I think I know, but in fear of looking like a dumb arse, I'll let a more experienced grass man chime in. I think it's St Augustine though.

I think it’s St. Augustine too. Pull up a runner and post a picture. That would make it easier to i.d. If the leaves look significantly different from the backyard grass, it could just be a different St. Aug cultivar. The other options intentionally planted generally in NWLA are Centipede, Zoysia and Bermuda. Maybe it’s a seeded type of zoysia. I have an infestation of Carpetgrass that looks similar, but it’s full of ugly seed heads about a half a week after mowing.

hard to tell from the pics since the grass was newly cut but I'm pretty sure I see some sharp blade tips which suggests this isn't St. Aug. The zoomed out pic looks like zoysia or centipede but as mentioned a runner will get you a definitive ID.

If all three pictures are from the same spot then you have St Aug. Zoomed in on the bottom middle of the first picture there is a runner and the leaves are coming off in a V pattern. The third picture looks more like centipede but it is probably just the angle from far away.
You do need to sharpen your mower blades though.

Do you have a neighbor with different grass? At my last house, Centipede began invading from my back yard neighbor, and it made parts of the yard look really odd.

Every parish in the state of Louisiana has a county agent. Bring them a sample and they can set you straight.

I think I see both St. Aug and centipede, which I’m currently fighting. As others have said, need to see a runner to confirm. At. Aug needs to be cut longer, centipede needy to be kept short or it will get super thick and woven underneath.
