Iam sure his first name wasn't Bobby. This guy was off jewela. You only got through the door by buzzer. Everytime he put a hot towel on my face before a shave, I would think of the Albert Anastasia photo after he got wacked.

Mr. Anthony at Razors Edge on Drusilla. Was in KOC and an usher at St. George. My grandfather took me there when I was in 3rd grade a few times ( my folks were in the middle of a divorce). I went back when I was a student at LSU and he remembered me. Turns out he and my grandfather were ushers together and good friends. Things I didn’t realize in 3rd grade but he remembered for the few time I was there.
In high school I used get my haircuts at a place on Kable Dr. in Algiers. Mr. Hulen. They had Playboy magazines in the cabinet. He would tell everyone who came in for a “high and tight,” “that’s just how I like my women!”
Places like that are rare now but I found a nice place on Bellaire in Houston…straight razor, massage…the works.

The one I go to is appointment only. He stays booked up...I have to book over a week in advance. He said on a full smooth day he can do 22 cuts. 22 x $25 before tips ... not bad money.

Used to be either 1.75 or 2.25, at tha Broadmoor Barber Shop in the sixties.

I used to get a flat top by John Cantu in the Union in the early 80s. Chicks loved it.
My grandfather was a barber, had a one chair shop in Midland from the 1920s until he died. He died in about 1971-72 so I can barely remember, but he had the place full of old men talking and laughing in French, somebody's hunting dog sitting outside in the back of the truck. He had a little broom closet where he always had an old side-by-side shotgun or two that somebody was trying to sell, for people to look at. He always had a Geesey-Ferguson funeral home calendar on the wall and the place smelled like soap, hair tonic, leather, and smoke. On Saturdays I would spend the day in the shop with him and I was the Chief Hair Sweeper. The old men would give me a quarter or a 50-cent piece. Good times. I have his last shaving mug and brush that was in the shop when he died.
Here in Mississippi it is against barber board regulations to use a straight razor they tell me. They have to use a regular safety razor, it isn't the same.
The last time I had a good straight razor shave was at Lonnie and Oscar's shop in the old Broadmoor shopping Center, but I left BR in 2006, I guess they are long gone.

My barber is a 101st Airborne veteran of Vietnam. he charges $20 for a haircut though.

My last haircut was in Iraq, sometime in May 2009. A contractor from the Subcontinent (probably Sri Lanka). They only played replays of old soccer matches on the TV there.

Couple of years back I would go to a place like that in Watson, they would put some kind of a big vibrator on your head that would massage it. At first I thought it was bizarre, I had never experienced anything like that. But it felt pretty good.

When I was a kid, my dad would take me to Claude’s in Kenner. The only options were a crew cut or a bowl cut it seemed.
As a teen, I would go to TJs on Williams Blvd for an undercut wedge haircut
Until I started shaving my head at home, I went to W Napoleon Barber shop in Metry. Home of the $7 dollar haircut, and full of old crusty dudes with tons of life advice.

Spent a lot of my youth in your neck of the woods. Many of nights playing pool at pizza king. Grew up on cross lake.

My Dad used to take me to Southdowns Barbershop on Perkins Road across from Pickett Avenue. A fellow named Rayford Cisco owned the place.

Even back in the 80's if you wanted your hair washed and styled, it was still 15 bucks. Nike's were 20. High top Reeboks we're 35. You could go to a concert for 10. Pack of smokes were 1.35, so hair cuts haven't gone up much. But I can wash my own hair and didn't need a Zohan Paul Mitchell cut.

I worked out next door to pizza king for years. Was friends with the owners sons. Sometimes after closing times, we would play poker and make pizzas all night. The oldest son Bobby was a very good pool player. He used to bet against buddy hall, former pro. He knew he would lose, but got a lot of tips from him. Sadly Bobby passed a few years back.
