Why don't we treat fatisoty like smoking?

Obesity kills almost 5 MM ( LINK) people, worldwide, annually. That's nearly as much as the holocaust EVERY YEAR. Yet we celebrate these people for being their "true selves".
Smoking has now become taboo (I'm a non-smoker(it's disgusting) so I have no skin in the game), but we've made it OK to be fat.
It matters to me because I am paying, financially, for people to be grossly over-weight. I know there are people with medical reasons for being over weight, but that is a minuscule percentage of fat folks.
FYI... Around 300,000 people die every year, in the USA, from obesity.

Unnecessary for your argument.
Cost to medical system alone should be enough.

What do you have against freedom? If we're going to allow people to drink and potentially kill other people, why not let them smoke and potentially kill themselves?

Ask the progressives who glorify being fat as courageous and brave.

because most people are fat
thats why
even all the guys that will come in here and talk shite about fat people are probably 30 lbs overweight, but because they are not 100 lbs overweight, they don't see themselves as the problem

This is what I needed on my Friday morning. Work is gonna fly by in this thread, especially if mingo and 777 show up.

You can thank your government and their horrible food guidelines for that. Filling mostly idle people with sugar and carbs until they get so obese that they have to ride a scooter to buy more of it at Walmart is so dumb that it can't be unintentional.

For the most part, we didn't villainize being a smoker; we villainized the act of smoking. Sure, we put them in their own section in restaurants if they wanted to smoke, and eventually banned smoking all-together, but it's not like anyone banned smokers. If someone was smoking a cigarette on their porch, no one screamed at them or anything.
There's no real corollary for people who are overweight, as you can't exactly villainize the act of eating, or the non-act of not exercising enough.
So while I agree that "celebrating" being overweight is absurd, anyone going out of their way to make an overweight person feel badly about themselves is a shite human, in my opinion.

The average American believes their weight is appropriate because there are individuals who are significantly fatter.
All Scruffy is waiting for are the posts rejecting the concept of BMI because of NFL athletes.

People talk endlessly about freedom, but many feel threatened when they actually see someone who is free. After seeing that they can't wait to straighten them out for the greater good. Live and let live, you do you and I'll do me.

We live in the only time in history where the wealthy are thin and the poorest among us are obese.

Ask the left. They made it acceptable.

Can't we focus on paying for people that don't work or pay taxes first?

Props for proper usage of MM
