We got a top 10 pick put of a team with LeBron and AD. That's pretty damn good lol. We will probably get at least one more as well.

Not bad.

And I wouldn’t be surprised at all if y’all get another.

And the Lakers got a championship out of it.

You could not be more wrong.

None of us really expected a top 10 pick in 2022.

Everyone was hoping it would fall apart by the 2024/2025 pick.

2009? Yeah they went back to back with Kobe Pau Odom and Bynum. Lakers would kill for that era over this one

What would the MSB or the Pelicans board be without LeBron?
The same minus 2 threads?

The most famous athlete in the US just signed a contract, I'd argue that 2 threads is probably a bit low in that regard.

Well, in addition to the players, we've already gotten a #4 overall and #8 overall pick from the Lakers. That's a lot already.

Is there a single person in the world that expected the #8 overall pick from the Lakers last season, especially when the Lakers were either 1st or 2nd best odds to win the title when the season started?

One the one hand, BI exceeded every expectation, and most fans did not expect to get a top 10 pick this early

On the flip side, and this is all on the Pels. We should have just drafted Darius Garland and we should have done a better job moving off Lonzo. The Garland one hurts cause you gave up an all star to draft a woman beating role player that probably won't be on the team when it really matters going forward.

On the whole though, the Lakers deal has gone a lot better than anyone could have anticipated IMO. Even if the Pels failed to properly maximize it.

But this deal now basically locks the Lakers into their pattern of mediocrity. Leaning on aging and injury-prone players to carry a shallow roster to a chip. It's not a bet I would take.

Honestly, Do you think the Lakers thought they would be giving the Pelicans a top 10 pick in 2022 when they made the trade? The lakers thought those picks and swaps would be in the mid to late 20's.

They probably figured the '24/'25 pick would be the only pick of value.

I think most Lakers fans still tell themselves it's worth it cause they got that one chip.

And thats fine, I'd probably rationalize the same, though I think they went all in on that one chip when they could have easily saw the bigger picture and likely got AD for much less and been a dynasty for a decade.

But their collective inability as an organization to pass the marshmallow test means the Pelicans get to feast for years...

We’ll it wasn’t a typical championship. It was a 5 month layoff with games that felt exhibitions at times without any fans.

I’d be willing to bet most Lakers fans in hindsight would’ve preferred building the team through the lottery and holding onto that young core for a sustained level of success.

Instead they sold away the next decade for mediocrity and one Mickey Mouse title.

I don't think so. It's physically challenging for LeBron to get through a full season at his age but him being able to break the NBA scoring record this season, he will play in as many games as possible.

Honestly, any time I come across a Lakers fan they want to defend it. Some version of

"You never pass up the chance to get a star and win a championship, no guarantees, gotta do it every time"

Then it's typically followed by some insult or magical thinking about the immediate future. Sometimes both

Did he give half to the WNBA, you know, for the sake of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity?

The Lakers were arguably hurt more by the bubble than any other team. They were going to be the 1 seed in the West - home court gone. Their biggest competition in the West was Clippers, aka Lakers would’ve had a 7 game home series against them - disappeared into neutral (even though they never played because Clippers choked). Avery Bradley was a member of the Lakers 7-8 man rotation, he never came back due to COVID (I don’t recall another contender losing a key piece for the bubble). And Lakers were the hottest team in the league when the shutdown occurred.

But I know it’s more fun to just act like the Lakers title was cheap and doesn’t count because we don’t like them

ETA: How many top 10 picks on 8-10 seeds does it take to equate to a Mickey Mouse ring? Pels fans need to know when they can claim validation over the bad takes that the Lakers were a dumpster fire and wouldn’t win anything.
