I am just now learning more about Ruby Ridge (late to the party) Why did a sniper shoot her in the head? How was this ever justified?

The F.B.I. "sharpshooter" shot Vicki Weaver through her kitchen door while she was holding her baby in her arms, in front of her other children.

Because they can do anything they want.
For frick's sake, recently our government killed several little children in a country we're not at war with...and then said it was an acceptable loss. They can assign the value of life of people in other countries... they damn sure can do it here.
They called themselves heroes for shooting the unarmed Babbitt in the face and beating another woman, who was already passed out, to death.
Moral is.. they can kill anyone they want and then just casually label the victim a terrorist afterwards in order to justify their actions.
At least we get bullshite excuses here. Those poor Afghani kids didn't even get an excuse. All they got was "well, it was an acceptable loss". frick. Did they at least compensate the family of those children?

Didn't specify whether it was for "conspicuous valor under fire, or for sharpshooting, or for being named Keystone Kops Agent of the Year."
Do believe that the Kop who shot the young boy's dog, which got the exact response from Weaver's son that they sought - and what followed - should've also been in the running for some award for conspicuous valor against overwhelming odds.

The federal law on firearms is that its not within their authority, it was left to the States. So the ATF is the one violating federal law.
