If you haven't yet, take a look at the MONTA watch collection and read some reviews of their build quality, specs, movement and especially the bracelet all under or right over the $2K mark. Very respected up and coming brand.

Tried it on in the Tudor boutique in Rome this summer...didn't pull the trigger because I didn't want to F with the customs process of bringing it back to the states. It is a superbly proportioned watch. I have two Tudors - A BB58 blue and a Black Bay Heritage black dial. I never wear the BB Heritage because of the slab like thickness of the polished side of the case opposite of the crown throws the proportions off.
You can't tell it from this pic, but IMO the thickness is not an issue with this watch. For reference, I do not a big wrist either (6.75"/170 mm).

They are exactly like cars. The cheap run of the mill ones that everyone has depreciate to basically zero over time. Some depreciate then slowly appreciate as collectors become more interested in them. Some are worth more as soon as you walk out of the store and continue to rise over time, though they see ups and downs along the way based on the whims of collectors.
Think:
Camry
BMW M cars
Ferrari and other super/hyper cars
Trying to figure out the watch market is a fools errand.
I as well many thought COVID would cause a dump in the market which turned out to be 100% wrong. Also, watches are a highly manipulated market when it comes to things like Patek, AP, and Rolex. The manufacturers keep production low and the gray market gobbles up and holds stock. You basically have to develop long relationships with dealers or wait out the gray market dealers.

I have 2 Rolex's, a Sub I bought from the Pearl Harbor Navy Exchange in 1992 for 3k and a Daytona my wife got me for an anniversary gift that she got from a client whose a dealer.

They both are fantastic movements with two different approaches. One has more of a revolutionary movement at least starting with the 8500 now back to evolutionary. The Rolex has an evolutionary movement that is arguably as or more robust than anything out there. The main difference for me is the date mechanism in the Rolex which I find superior to any other mechanical watch, because everyone else does it the same way. I have multiples of each and if I was forced I would pick a Rolex movement but don't find either that much better than the other.

Well, that's the rub. If I tried to come through without declaring, and they opened my bags and found the box, that would not look good on my part, and I would imagine I'd be subject to fines or maybe confiscation. Probably wouldn't happen, I would guess, but didn't really want to chance it on a watch I could buy at home. I was already traveling with a 16750 Pepsi on my wrist that I would have either had to pack or wear two watches coming back.

The systems they use is very robust but it is more of a pain to service since it has several levers, springs, and jewels to contend with, especially the loose jewel on the underside of the date trip wheel. It is also on two levels so it can make the movement thicker. The "standard" ETA cam action is something you find on almost every other Swiss, German, Japanese and Chinese movement. It is simple and easy to service and works well but is more likely to fail if you change the date in the danger zone. You will find it in everything from cheap Seikos and even cheaper Chinese movements up to Patek and Lange as well as all the boutique brands that I have seen pictures of.
Tudor tried a slightly different approach with their MT5652 GMT movement and it caused them lots of issues which I suppose why everyone uses the ETA approach.
I will note I like the 3135 movements more than the 3235 movements from Rolex. While I like the new Chronergy escapement I don't like 2 things.
1. The rotor is now ball bearing which is good BUT it has to be changed as one unit and more serviceable. The old stud would wear but if serviced every decade or so would last 2 lifetimes and could be replicated by any good watchsmith if parts became unavailable.
2. To facilitate the new longer power reserve (70hr) the main spring barrel is MUCH thinner. Now it is just replaced with every service where the old one would last "forever" if properly maintained.
I wouldn't avoid the 3235 movements, I just happen not to own any but just like the 8500 and up Omega movements they have become much more dependent on their manufacturer for long-term parts availability. The Omega movements also became much more finicky to service cutting down on the watchmakers that are able to service them.

lol I think the context of the comment was not understood. A datejust at arounnd $3500 would be pretty old vs a new Omega 8900 PO.
Plus 36mm is wayyy too small for me.
