I'm streaming the show now and it's rough. I'll do what I can, but taking notes as I listen isn't my strong suit.

JJ Off the Bench Notes:

JJ - Focused on draft and shaping next years roster right now

How to keep yourself/team focused after NC?

JJ - want to emulate 2023 team but we need to reset and focus on future. He feels confident in his blueprint.

What do the conversations with draftable players look like?

JJ - It depends on the situation. Early round guys should go. Hes happy for Morgan, Coop, Jobert, dugas to go pro
Hes gonna have conversations with Coleman and Little to see where they land. "far from being over"

Draft Coverage recruiting value?

JJ - He wasnt surprised Skenes went first

How big was getting the first picks for recruiting?

JJ - Huge. The players you are recruiting want to be the #1 pick. No better advertisement then NC and first position player last 2 years, first pitcher, first transfer guy last 2 years

You seem to have a detailed plan for your players and recruits. Do you get discouraged when prospects go to the MLB?

JJ - we try to educate them on which path is better. We cant argue with blake mitchell going to the league. Unless you are a first round pick then you should consider all options. Our recruits held their ground really well. The recruits had a lot of leverage because their back up option was coming to LSU to play for our fans and for a NC. LSU will do a better job of development than many minor league systems.

How do you navigate recruiting guys who may not show up?

JJ - We spend a lot of time recruiting guys regardless. We invested a lot in recruiting Shores and it worked out. We have to take risks on guys like cameron johnson because you need future major league dudes on your roster to win a NC.

Looking at DJ Primeaux's summer debut for the Rougaroo:

2 IP. 3 strikouts (all swinging). No walks. One hit that was subsequently erased on a double play. The other out was a ground out to second base.

That's really encouraging.

T-Bob with a very annoying introduction just can't stop talking to allow Jay to speak

- Jay full speed ahead on recruiting and shaping next years roster.

- T-Bob asks about keeping the team hungry and dealing with success? Jay responds by taking the positives from the team and the number 1 thing next years team needs to do is forget about this year.

- Jay reaffirms how committed to winning this team was the past two seasons. He wants the team to keep repeating that mindset and work ethic.

- Jacob asks about the uncertainty of the draft and what conversations he has with players before or after the draft? Jay responds by saying it depends on the player. Hes happy for the day two guys Tre and Dugas getting selected. Day 3 he said hes happy for Riley and supports him and thinks he needs to go and thinks Jobert needs to go pro too.

- T-Bob asks about him going on MLB Network and breaking down the top 2 overall picks and use it as recruiting leverage. Jay says Nationals and Pirates are the winners from the whole thing in the players they selected (Skenes and Crews). He called both Skenes and Crews earlier in the day before the draft saying how happy he was for them.

- Jacob asks how big this year is for recruiting? Jay says this was always part of his recruiting plan and development of a program. He says there is no better advertisement. The first college player the last two players were picked from LSU (Skenes this year, Berry last year). And elaborates how this does help recruits who want to be apart of a program like this.

- T-Bob asks about potential High School players and their draft potential? Jay responds by how Blake Mitchell is a no doubt signer and how he tries to educate the players on if they are a first round pick they will have the backing from the organization otherwise if they fall past the first round it is far better for them to come to college. Says how LSU's fans in both Alex Box and Omaha is a real advantage for recruiting because who would not want to play in those atmospheres.

- Jacob asks about recruiting a player out of high school who is a first round pick (Blake Mitchell) and putting in the effort just in case - Jay brings up Chase Shores and how lucky they were with their recruiting effort to get him. Also made note how he is most likely to be the next Paul Skenes. Then mentions Cam Johnson and how he needs MLB talent to win a Championship and building the program.

- T-Bob and Hester discuss with Jay to get T-Bob into the batting cage this summer and Jay says hes only going to throw changeups and Thatcher Hurd is going to strike him out. Funny little ending I guess.

He throws mid to upper 90s from the left side. If he wants to pitch, he will pitch.

Correction.....he is a RHP. Point still stands though.

Money threw mid to upper 90s. Montgomery threw 14 innings on the year and gave up 20 hits and 11 BB for an ERA over 12. With as good of a hitter as he is, I'm just wondering if his time would be better spent focusing solely on hitting and fielding.

For those interested in catching some summerball action with LSU guys, La Crosse is playing a double header today with game 1 around noon. That's Mic Paul and Ethan Frey in the Northwoods league, plus Aidan Moffett could pitch as well.

The games are free to watch on the Northwoods League site.

Frey is someone I forget about when day dreaming about next year’s team. Hoping for a big freshman to sophomore jump, he could be a dude.

"building" being used pretty loosely.

That's awesome though. Cape Cod for watching baseball is on my bucket list.
