unless they drafted all college seniors your still gonna have to spread money to get jrs to sign and forego their final year of eligibility..and it’s not like they have a big draft pool of money to begin with

They have multiple guys that are college players that they may or may not have to pay more than the 150K to. Not just the high school guys that will factor in in 11-20.
Jobert can do LSU a solid and milk them for whatever he can over the 150K.

He shouldn’t want to play for the Cardinals anyway, the organization is a shell of its former self. They had to resort to hacking and copycatting the Astros once Houston plucked their mastermind away.
*This is nothing more than retaliation against a certain Cardinals fan in this thread for taking unnecessary shots at the Astros earlier this week.

HEY, I took a shot at the Cardinals in that same post.

Historically, college juniors are not the ones milking much over the round 11-20 standard slot (last year $125K, this year $150K). Sure there are some here and there, but of the significant slot overages ($100K+), it is a vast majority being done by HS kids.

The Cardinals did a similar thing last year apparently picking their lone prep player in the 20th round and that guy did not sign. Obviously every situation is different but just putting that out there.

Just in the 11th round there were only 13 players take slot value or less.
12 guys got paid 100K or more than slot with 6 being HS and 6 being college. So just their 11 round pick taking more can help. Once that is spread through 11-20 any little bit will help with the Cardinals not having much to begin with.

They’re both from the Nashville area. Probably played on summer teams together at some point.

I chose a round at random from last year to not try to pick one that fit a narrative. Went with 12th round.
of the 30 selections, 4 were HS, 3 were JUCO, and 23 were college. Of the 4 from HS, 1 did not sign. Of the 23 from college, 1 did not sign. Everyone else signed.
Of the 3 HS draftees to sign:
All 3 went over slot for a total of $282.5K and an average of $94K/player.
Of the 3 JUCO draftees:
All 3 signed at or under slot of $125K.
Of the 22 college draftees to sign:
17 signed at or under slot of $125K.
5 signed over slot (including Pineda $22.5K over, Gervase $45K over, and Fristoe from MSU $147.5K over) for a total of $252.5K and an average of $50K/player.
I also went to look to try to breakdown the over and under slots by college players with eligibility left and those without, but the MLB site had Pineda as not having any eligibility left (but we know he did because of COVID), so I stopped tabulating because I did not want to provide incorrect data. I will say that there were several college players both juniors and a sophomore that clearly had eligibility left that signed at or below the slot value of $125K.
My point still stands but I'm now curious of it on a more macro level.

Milam could be our 2nd baseman for next year! A switch hitter can hit for a good average.

Now it's time for Jay to start doing Jay things!!! Crush that portal!

Good info. The biggest point I wanted to make was the Cardinals not having a big pool value so they are handcuffed a bit from the beginning. Don’t need them to take plenty but if you have a few that take over then it really hurts there chances.

The cardinals draft guy (not the gm, but just below him) called drafting Johnson a Hail Mary

That would make Cam a DES if he makes it to campus, right?

No. He’d be eligible for the 2026 draft.

Per On3
Luke Holman will visit early next week.
Jay is already sitting on the portal potty.

Say Cam went undrafted. He could be signed as a UDFA by any team. Would that also be without draft pool restrictions?
