My friends that are born and raised there definitely say it's not the same city from their youth. It's changed a lot. And it's way more expensive. But none of them seem to be dyring to get out either. They have their gripes but it's still better than most other major cities in the USA.

Old Denver (when I grew up there) was a great city. Now it’s over crowded, over priced, and filled with hipsters and pot heads.

Still is on the front porch to some great mountains though. I’m thinking of moving back.

8/10: it gets high marks for the weather, the breweries, the people, and location near the mountains. It’s held back by the massive homeless population, high costs of living, mediocre music scene, and rather unremarkable architecture and mass transit. Denver isn’t an especially pretty city, and it’s not a super walkable one either. While it’s not as bad of a sprawl city as Houston or L.A., it’s not great either.

With that said, if I could get a job where I could afford a decent life style in any city in the lower 48, Denver would be in my top 5 choices.

Great metro area. Even if you don't live the city there are infinite things to do and places to see within an hour or two drive.

When you factor in mileage + traffic, it's a hassle, and you don't go to the Rocky's as much as you'd think. The Rocky Mountains are not in Denver's backyard.

For instance, using the Zoo/City Park as a starting point due to its central location, and going to say...Echo Lake Park or Georgetown, CO, you're looking, at minimum, 1 hour. That's on a great day, as that doesn't factor in traffic, road closures, etc. Going further into the Rocky's, that's 2 hours. So, a 4-hour rounds trip. Unless you're camping out, it's extremely difficult to do many day hikes, skiing, and such.

I always find it amusing when people think you just walk out your front door in Denver and you're in the Rockies.

I can climb 20 minutes from home in denver in clear creek. I can hike or bike 20 minutes away in golden, Morrison, or evergreen. You don’t necessarily have to be deep in the Rockies to enjoy the outdoors. You know and understand very little to have such a strong opinion

Yep, its the Great Plains.

You can see mountains in the distance. Co Springs is closer to elevation.

The traffic coming from the mountains back into Denver during ski season is some of the most miserable traffic I've seen anywhere. Then you have the rare occasion where you spend the night in your car on I-70. That part of living in Denver sucks.

I like it. Visited the city in 2019 and there was a legendary snow storm, which is actually pretty rare. It usually snows in the mountains west of the city. We went to the mountains and all the way to Boulder and it was absolutely stunning.

I have a couple buddies that moved there and they like it. Fun city and legal weed.

One thing I will say is there are a ton of men, probably more men than women. Also, I hardly saw any kids when I was there, which was kind of weird for me. Maybe that’s just downtown though.

There is a train in town that seems excellent and not full of ghetto people like the public transportation in the south.

I would move there for 5 years but couldn’t see myself staying forever.

I worked around ski season traffic by getting a nice little truck camper with propane heat. I drive out at night and wake up at the resort without doing traffic while getting some extra sleep. You have to adapt as the environment around you changes

right?

I have learned a few things in my ~10 years. Also left at times thinking the grass may be greener elsewhere, but I always end up back

Houston has decriminalized weed… but I agree I doubt many people move there for that.
