This thread went off the rails

I lived there for some time in the 80s, it was pretty great back then.

I do not think Denver Metro now is place you want to live unless you have a nice job. In that case it is what it is, a standard urban/suburban environment. The mountains are nearby, but after a year you will not visit that much because of distance and traffic. It will become like living in any US city.

If you are looking for a forever home, Colorado is a great state. We are down to 3 states planning out our retirement - Colorado, Wyoming or Montana.

Don’t see the hype. Colorado isn’t the only state with

mountains so I don’t give AF

Most of Colorado is great, Denver will be Portlandia in 10 years, those who can are getting out now.

Not sure if you are slamming me but I assure you I ain’t a yuppie. And the Coors truck traffic goes out 32nd to Hwy 58 so that doesn’t bother me.

Those getting out largely can’t afford it

Let alone, 40% of your state looks like Kansas but that’s a different topic lol.

And the other 60% is better than the entire state of Texas.

My dad's side of the family has lived in Denver since the 40s. They've all moved in the past five years. They can easily afford it...they just don't like the people who've moved there in the past ten years.

I spent quite a bit of time in Denver when I was a kid. They city now is very, very different.

And that's not a good thing.

Duh, this is why red blooded Americans should move back and claim it.

Colorado is surrounded by a sea of Red States, time to build an invasion force.

Homeless, crime, and cost of living (especially housing) are on big rises. It's become overcrowded.

ETA: And the big blue wave runs the state and city.

ETA2: Hoping Heidi Ganahl beats out Polis for Gov this election, but I feel it may be too steep a hill to climb for her, even with a black Lt. Gov running mate to appeal to the large SJW diversity crowd in the Front Rang urban corridor.

any town with about 20k+ people has everything I care about in life these days.
this is what we chose but still close enough to a (small) metro area so we can still have a decent airport, sporting events, concerts, restaurants, specialty stores, hospitals, emergency vet, etc because I figured out I still liked and needed those things close by.

Colorado Springs would fit the bill because it is close enough to Denver to drive over for the big city amenities if you wanted everything you really needed day to day right there. But it is over 20k people I like Manitou springs vibe.

Lived there for a few years and really enjoyed my time there. It felt crowded when I left and it’s only gotten worse. It’s gotten wildly expensive. The same apartment I was renting for $1,400 in 2018 is now going for $1,900. I loved the access to the mountains. But so does everyone else so 70 is a shite show. Food scene was meh but there was always something to do. I definitely want to move but I am not sure where I’ll go this time.

It's a generic, overpriced city filled with people who deck themselves out in head-to-toe outdoor gear; yet, they live a decent ways away from the mountains.

Seriously, take a gander, everywhere you go, Patagonia, North Face, Arc'teryx, Lems, Chacos, or, if you're real edgy, Carhartt overalls. You don't need to rock your hiking boots and Carhartt overalls to the local brewery or coffee shop, pal. The Rocky Mountains are over an hour away - that's without the traffic.

Juneau (32k) is too big for me now. I'm downtown this summer, where all the introverts live.

Small towns are more to my liking. I've figured out introverts like the country, or a big city where they can blend in. Small towns where you know many folks, my thing.

It's an above average city. Nestled in a great state, near some of the most pristine, prettiest geography in the whole world... super conducive to an outdoorsy lifestyle. Great breweries and restaurants. TRVE Brewery (death metal brewery) is probaby my favorite brewery ever. Pretty safe and low crime for a city of its size and the crime is concentrated to a couple certain areas. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. There's a reason its expensive, which is everyone wants to live there. I wanted to move there but couldn't land a good job before receiving an offer in New Mexico that was too good to pass up. Now, I can drive 6hrs or fly for 45 minutes and I'm there, hanging with friends having a blast. I love it.
