It doesn’t have very many people who annoy you (according to the demographics statistics).

It is a major city on a bay with incredible weather year round, an MLB team, world renowned zoo, amazing beaches on the pacific, concerts, world class golfing (Torrey pines), good hiking (Torrey pines), sea world etc. young and single or older with kids there is stuff to do.

If you find San Diego boring then that’s a you problem.

If it was closer to family I’d move out there tomorrow

I know this is the prevailing theory, but it has to be more than this.

L.A. has similar demographics but the murder rate is higher.

Has never had the problem of Hollywood/LA that drew the dregs of the country for the past 70-80 years, (of which probably was more the SD today, back then). Add on the LARGE Camp Pendleton community for that amount of time, and it’s a good recipe for a very family-friendly oriented city amongst the mostly white, Asian, and hispanics that reflect that type of constitution.

Beautiful weather + ocean + Large military base + multiple family based ethnicities = SD

I would much rather go to leftist shitholes like LA, SF, Portland, Seattle and New Orleans than a vanilla safe babies crib like SD. But I get that people who are scarred like safe.

When I walk the streets in SD generally the people are smiling and friendly. It's like the hospitality you usually get in small-town-south. It's not Chicago where people in the elevator are yelling at you to hurry up while you are being polite and allowing other people to enter first or New York were people want to fight you for holding the door open for them. Or like New Orleans were you get asked, "I bet I know where you got dem shoes?" every 500 feet.

He probably lives there and doesn't want you to move there.

I get the impression that the reason SD turned down the desalination plant was not because of "environmentalism". The real reason is to keep resources expensive and make it difficult for people to move and live there.

You think so? I agree it’s WAY better than Chicago and New York, but I’ve dealt with rudeness in SD that I never saw in the south.

Examples:

1. I asked a man in a restaurant if he was in line. He looked at me, said nothing, and then resumed looking at his phone.
2. I held a door open for a woman. She rolled her eyes without making eye contact and didn’t say thank you.
3. I was leaving an asian grocery store, but me and another man we’re approaching the door at the same time. I stopped so he could leave first, but then he yells “GO!”
4. An woman runs a stop sign and almost T-bones me. I wave at her to go anyway, but she angrily stares me down instead of gesturing “my fault” or something like that.

SD is a nice city, but I’ve never experienced small town southern hospitality there.

Sort of related: generally driving in Cali is no joke. We take it seriously compared to the south. We want to be quick and aware, having high expectations for ourselves, and others as well to have they’re shite together. Driving in the south is irrationally maddening to us.

Biden won the county by more than 20%

There’s nothing conservative about the city or the county

SD City 1.415 million (2020)

SD County 3.324 million (2020)

City is 42 percent of the county and still Biden only got 20% more. Therefore, like I said, SD city proper is, but the county overall isn’t.

SD county is filled with MAGA Baws and Hispanics once you leave the coastline.

Fair point. I didn’t realize how huge San Diego county actually was. Looks like it stretches almost halfway to Arizona. I’m sure as you go further inland the politics definitely changes.

But I think most people in this thread are talking about the actual city itself which appears to be an incredibly liberal place.

Maybe. I’ve just never seen it in small southern towns.

It’s still liberal mainly, but compared to LA and SF county regarding large cities, it’s more conservative.

It’s amazing to me the out of state perception of Cali as being all loony. Not minimizing we have our crazies, but outsiders would be equally if not even more impressed how Bawish this state is. Hispanics have a large doing of that as well. That’s why my perspective is to loosen the immigration gates. They hate snooty white libs.
