When I make homemade deer jerky, I use soy sauce to marinade the meat and then I sprinkle a little bit of zatarains crab boil on the jerky strips while they are in the dehydrator.

Jerky? Best place to get it is at a small town gas station that sells local beef jerky.
What you need is dried beef. Some injun fella gave me some that he makes and it was 100x better than any jerky I ever had.
