Unfortunately he was very very smart in how he went about his crooked activity, and gave himself a lot of plausible deniability. Also had GREAT lawyers.

Nicole Burdett was the go-between with the tax preparer. I guess the jury thought that she handled it all and that she knew what she was doing whereas Jason W was just an innocent victim. Likely not the case at all, but it basically sounded like the weak case by the AUSA played out that way at trial.
