Here for the weekend. What are some spots I shouldn’t miss?

If you like bourbon/whiskey definitely go to Jack Rose for a drink.

Agreed, Jack Rose is the best whiskey bar that I've ever been to.

ETA: last time we were in DC we went to Blue Duck Tavern. It was a solid meal, but there are probably better meals to be found.

We really enjoyed eating on the Terrazza at Officina on a previous trip.

Zaytinya is also very good, Mediterranean Tapas.

Jack Rose is great but Black Whiskey is the better venue imo. I was in DC last week and the standout was a meal at Albi in the Navy Yard. It's the best Arabic meal I've ever had. I doubt you'll get a table this late in the game, but anybody planning a trip needs to look into it.

I'm not going to say these places are "can't miss" but they are solid casual meals options. In no particular order.

1. Unconventional Diner
2. Duke's Grocery
3. Ted's Bulletin (Breakfast)
4. Emmy Squared
5. Lucky Buns
6. Mi Vida

It's a great place. Check out the desserts in the cabinet on the way in and make sure to save room for one of them.

Filomena’s is great.
Of course, Old Ebbits Grill is a great place to eat and has a really historic feel.
Everyone needs to go at least once.

I agree but I’m here (Ole Ebbitts) and they are only serving New England and Canadian oysters. Very tasty!

I’m about to be hailed with downvotes but I stand by my opinion that when it comes to raw oysters:

West Coast > East Coast > Gulf Coast

Old Ebbitt Grill is always excellent and is in Metro Square so right beside the White House.

L’Ardente, get the 40 layer lasagna

Del Mar, get one of the paellas

Le Diplomate

Masseria, get one of the tasting menus

The Dabney

I usually recommend Dauphine’s but not to LA natives since they are often overly picky about LA cuisine, but it is very good.

I don’t disagree but that’s like saying sea bass is better than catfish. Or that Pappy Van Winkle is better than Wild Turkey 101.

A similar perspective is if you’re out with your family and footing the bill, are you more likely to enjoy a dozen east/west coast oy$ter$, or a dozen gulf coast oysters?

I enjoy all oysters and all whiskies. But I’m picky about the time and place to enjoy them.

Old Ebbett Grill does Chargrilled oysters with tasso. It's so good and never had that locally.

Jaleo and Uyamel were memorable meals too. Ate at 3 Chef Andres places last trip ('12)
