2019 vs 2011
Burrow - Mathieu
CEH - Brockers
Chase - Mingo
Jefferson - Reid
Marshall - Montgomery
Moss - Minter
McMath - Claiborne

48.4 PPG vs 11.3 PPG
568.4 YPG vs 261.5 YPG

2019 was special and record breaking. It's obviously fresh in our memories. Our 2011 Defense was vaunted though! Especially by the numbers. We were special in 2011 on the defensive side of the ball. I'm a BIG defensive guy so I'll take the 2011 Defense. Also remember that Auburn 2019 held us to 23 points at home so it was possible at least once that year to slow us down. There would be some intriguing matchups across the board. Just an interesting debate with football season around the corner. What are your thoughts?

I’d give the edge to that defense, but the 2019 offense would still score points. Would that 2011 offense be able to score enough to keep up is the real question, imo.

Edit: added clarity

Considering that the 2019 offense played a gambit of top 10 teams and smoked them I give the edge to 2019 offense

If anyone thinks the ‘19 offense wouldn’t shred the ‘11 defense like they did everyone else they are wrong. Might as well just be comparing them to the gump’11 offense.

I'll take the 2011 defense over 2019's defense every year.

Edit: I misread the question -- thought it was asking the 2011 defense or the 2019 defense, not offense. I'll take the 2019 offense with the 2008 defense every single year

I believe LSU’s 2019 offense is AT LEAST 2 TD’s better than 2011 West Virginia’s offense. They scored 21 and had a good bit of yards against the 2011 D. So IMO that puts the ‘19 O at at least 35 points against ‘11’s D. No way that garbage arse O in ‘11 would put up more than 35 against Aranda.

So as much as I loved that D in ‘11, I’ll take the O in ‘19.

That '19 offense. No defense in the history of college football is gonna consistently shut it down. You would need a monster pass rush and absolutely elite DBs to have a chance.

This is really an unfair question. It would depend on the other side of the ball.
The '11 defense would win the battle for one maybe two quarters, but would the '11 offense be able to keep the defense off the field long enough to rest?
And vice versa. If the '19 defensive gave up long, time consuming drives, would the '19 offense be on the field enough?
So, '19 team was better overall, but I would take the '11 defensive if all things were equal.

Geno Smith threw for 463 yards vs that 2011 defense. And a dude with the worst chest tattoo ever threw for 234 yards against them as well.

2011 defense had a lot of studs. But you’re talking about a top 5 QB in the NFL and 2 top 5 WRs in the NFL. 2011 team never faced an offense remotely close to the talent on 2019 team.

The rules changed. In 2019 a WR can just push the corner down. I don’t care how good the corner is - and they don’t get much better than AJ Terrell - JaMaar Chase would just push them down. Plus, you can’t get a pass rush because the lines can hold. The 2019 offense would win.

The 2011 defense was designed to stop the offenses (especially SEC offenses) of the day. WVU racked up big yards because they were outside the box in what they did. Fast forward to 2019 and the rpo offenses of which, 2019 was the best example the world has seen, and 2011 would get it's licks in for sure, but they weren't built for what they'd be facing and 2019 would figure them out and score in the 30s. Auburn had help from the weather and LSU turnovers. Had they played again on a dry surface, LSU scores 30-40.

Chase would have embarrassed Mo like he did Terrell, Diggs, etc. You gotta realize that Chase and Jefferson are both arguably top 5 NFL receivers, Burrow a top 5 QB, etc. There are levels to this and all the rules favor the offense.

I'd take the healthy 2019 D (the last 5 games against Ark, A&M, Georgia, Okl, Clemson, with Aranda) over any defense

2011 defense got carved up by a freshman quarterback in the national championship game….21-0.

2019 smokes 2011. It is not close.

2019 Offense would do better than Bama did in NC Game.

So more than 21

Saban found a way to punk that defense in round 2. Went right over the top.
Burrow and Company would run up 28-35 points on the 2011 defense.

LSU torched elite defenses in 2019. Come on now.
