What is with the Western world’s obsession with green energy?

Is it really about the planet? Or is there a more practical reason? Wars have been fought for centuries over natural resources. And energy is what makes the world go round.
Some of these policies, whether it’s the green movement or immigration, seem like suicidal policies. But is it possible these policies are meant to ensure the survival of the Western world rather than the cause of its destruction?
I know when it comes to businesses, the ones that continue to remain at the top of the food chain are the ones who constantly push to innovate. Those who don’t, die.
I just struggle with the idea that policies being pushed by these “globalist” leaders are meant to hurt their own countries in favor of other non-Western countries.
Is there more to the agendas of the Western world? Do we have it all wrong? Or is it just as it seems on the surface?

The environmental movement screwed us over 50 years ago regarding nuclear. It will make a comeback, but we didn't do the environment any favors by going away from it..

They want to change the economy, the climate change stuff is secondary.
Look at how far the energy side of our economy penetrates every sector. Everything traded globally, put into trucks, stored in freezers and grocery stores, it all depends on energy.
Fertilizers to feed the world.
