This movie was extremely gruesome and if my parents only knew they would have never let me watch it. I don’t remember if I watched it when it was first released making me 5 years old but I grew up watching Aliens, predator, the thing , and all kinds of awesome 80s and 90s horror and sci fi. So thank you for a great experience Mom and Dad! Lol

It was the first rated R movie I ever saw. The ED-209 scene scared the shite out of me. The whole movie did actually. but I loved every second of it. I was like 7 years old.

Lost Boys could also be my first rated R movie, can't remember which one I saw first.

Same here. Watched it when I was 9. My favorite movie back then and bought blu ray when it came out on 2000s!

Things were so different back then. Life was fun and those movies were amazing.

I remember this movie created a huge uproar when it was released due to the graphic violence. I think it was a big reason why they created the NC-17 rating, similar to Temple of Doom outrage leading to the PG-13 rating.

I could be wrong but that's just my recollection from childhood.

I also saw it very young. ED 209 giving the countdown to that poor bastard in the boardroom will forever haunt my nightmares.

Pffft.

Most parents freaked out about the 5 seconds of boobs in that movie than the cop getting his hands blown off.

My Dad took me to Robocop 2 (wayyyyy more violent and everything else than the original one IMO) when I was like 7, and was fricking mortified. Not enough to leave and waste the tickets, but yeah, it was quite an experience.

When they did test audiences, that bit was either the thing people liked or hated most about the film. There was no middle ground.

I'm glad I didn't see it until my later teenage years. Got enough nightmares from The Fly remake.
I think the first R movie I saw was Terminator 2 when I was still 6 but it's always seemed tame for an R rated action movie from that period.

My contribution to every Robocop thread!

I lived where they filmed he flashback scene of Peter Weller's RoboCop character visiting the condo where he and his family used to live. That morning when I left for work there were guys with light meters out by my car. They had him go into a condo across from mine, on the creek side. The interior isn't really what the inside was like.

RoboCop - Home coming scene on YouTube

That's the Treetops Condominiums at 9222 Church Street, between Skillman Road and the railroad trestle by Lake Highlands High School and the park with a Frisbee golf course. It's the original phase, that's on the right if you're coming from Skillman.

Here's Google map for Treetops If you're in Dallas go check it out.

There were several actors in Robocop that appeared throughout 24 series too. I wonder what the connection is

Rated R movies used to have toy and action figure tie-ins to the movie. It was a great time to be a kid!

Every 80s kid had the cool friends house where their parents would let them watch Robocop among others.

I remember seeing Revenge of the Nerds, Robocop, and Porkys at my buddies.

Not even close to ED 209

Some bad guy getting burnt up and grotesque by waste didn’t have the same effect as some innocent executive thrown in front of a machine by his collogues to save their own lives and get completely shredded by a robot.

That scene was intense and very graphic.

Saw it in the theatre the first weekend it came out so I didn’t know what to expect.

The audience reaction to that scene was the perfect example of “nervous laughter”.

Which promptly turned to genuine laughter when Dan O’Herlihy as The Old Man delivered the next line
