Every Republican faces this challenge now, in these fricked up times. The burden of proof on this is pretty much on the accused. And it’s about the worst thing you can be in American politics.

Their ideologues got out ahead of this question and have deemed all possible replies (e.g. i'm not racist; i have black friends; i'm married to a black woman, etc.) as racist. It's a trap and it's not even worth engaging them.
