re: USA will have Socialized Medicine in 20 Years - It's Inevitable

So, we're taking our tax dollars and covering the(most expensive) people that can't pay for themselves while the rest of us fight about what a single payer system would look like.
It does occur to you that many (if not most) on Medicare contributed tax dollars for their entire working lives while being employed on the basis that when they reached retirement age there would be a health insurance system in place for them that they still have to pay premiums for to cover them? Or are you under the impression you are the only person ever to have had to pay taxes? And btw ask people on Medicare about the donut hole lest you think it’s all free for them.

Have you paid any attention to our government lately?
And you want to give them *more* money?
I really wish every one of you people advocating socialized medicine would have to spend one year dealing with the VA for your healthcare.
Advocating for increasing the government's role in healthcare would stop reaaaaaaal fricking quick.
Do you know anyone already on medicare? I do....a lot actually. They all seem to really enjoy not ending up with a MASSIVE bill for needing an MRI.

i graduated high school
i worked multiple internships
i graduated college
worked multiple jobs to afford it.
i got a salaried job at a good company for a career.
which comes with incredible medical and dental programs.
i stuck with it in the good times and the bad and many times when i could’ve gotten a salary bump elsewhere.
years of effort, paying my own way, and staying out of trouble. starting a family when i was mature and financially comfortable enough to do so. tell me, why the frick should some government leach have the health insurance i have?
should they also be able to afford the same neighborhood i live in? should they also have the same salary i have? should they also be able to afford the same lifestyle me and my family live?
All this.
Good health should be a luxury that poor people shouldn't be able to afford. I mean, if not, what's the point of being rich?

Except I'm an atheist, and not a christian.
Try again. Using the bible as justification to take more of my fricking labor isn't going to fly buddy.

Well most refuse to share.
The US has the highest rate of donation to private charities of any country on this planet.
And that's after we look at how much of our money is taken from us each paycheck by our government with little, if any, return.

Cause you realize those dirty poors still show up to the ER, still get sick, still get long-term diseases that require expensive care or emergency intervention?
And when they cant pay, guess who the costs get passed off onto? You
Guess who's tax dollars go up when medical bankruptcies compose around half of all bankruptcies filling up the courts? You
We already have a sort of basic, super limited UHC in this country(we wont turn you away if you show up at the ER needing care or require ambulance intervention), we just do it in the most mind-bogglingly stupid and unnecessarily expensive way imaginable. Which is why despite not covering everyone, we still pay more tax dollars, more private care dollars than every other industrialized country, which all have some form of much more comprehensive UHC.

healthcare being tied to employment is retarded and major reform is needed. i don't know what that looks like but that is my official stance
Nah, it’s a huge incentive to actually work

Yes. We also have the most unhealthy demographic of all those nations. By a rather large margin.

Not even really sure what this has to do with our discussion...but....cool?

That has nothing to do with the system. It’s because people here are fat as frick
Posted on 7/14/22 at 9:14 am to Bronc
Bronc, you progs get back to me when your message becomes UHC combined with promotion of personal responsibility. "We're going to have UHC in place by 2026, but to do that Americans are going to have to start taking responsibility for themselves, their families, their neighborhoods. That means cutting the obesity rate and not soft pedaling around that issues with notions of food deserts or other distractions. That means the 50% of you who don't pay income taxes are going to pay more. That means those of you who aren't working are going to have to start."
You can't credibly argue for it while simultaneously telling the country that those who don't have health insurance are being discriminated against based on race/gender/etc. and that the people who pay into the system are actually evil and selfish.

Found the corporate cuck.
Tying healthcare to employment was an anti-labor move made decades ago and it has worked brilliantly. It prevents people from changing jobs and starting their own businesses and empowers companies to the expense of its employees.

Shift the medical model to pay upfront for services....
Absolute emergencies (not your trichomoniasis) would have special stimulations.

Come on, don't you know that Medicare people are just lazy bums? Elderly people should just be fending for themselves, if they want healthcare they can continue to work!

How much did you donate last year?

This would require health care providers to be transparent about costs....we can't have that now can we?
