imagine the cost for healthcare if every person in the US decided to eat healthy, not smoke, not do unprescribed drugs, drove intelligently, stopped shooting each other, and exercised modestly?

While I agree lifestyle choices account for a good chunk of preventable medical problems, those people aren't the only reason costs are so high. The reason costs are so high is the insurance/payer/provider relationship is so heavily skewed towards the insurance companies benefit.

Just come out and say it. Medicaid and Medicare are socialized medicine.

healthcare being tied to employment is retarded and major reform is needed. i don't know what that looks like but that is my official stance.

i graduated high school i worked multiple internships i graduated college worked multiple jobs to afford it. i got a salaried job at a good company for a career. which comes with incredible medical and dental programs. i stuck with it in the good times and the bad and many times when i could’ve gotten a salary bump elsewhere. years of effort, paying my own way, and staying out of trouble. starting a family when i was mature and financially comfortable enough to do so. tell me, why the frick should some government leach have the health insurance i have?
I love it when people post this shite like it’s something to be proud of. I’ve done the same shite and it wasn’t the least bit hard. High school, college, law school and then finding well a paying job was pretty damn easy. I didn’t come from wealth but had a stable family and friend group that made it very easy to be “successful.” Just because I’m better off than others doesn’t mean they aren’t any less deserving of decent health insurance.

I’m sure you identify as a Christian too.

Not advocate taking people's money against their will through government fiat, for one.

Well I’m sure most posters here are more than willing to dip into their own pockets and help the less fortunate afford health insurance.

Or they are just donating to their mega church so that Brayden and Jaxson can go hang some dry wall in Haiti for two days.

Is that really so bad? I mean if we can send $40 billion to the Ukraine, we can spend money to help out the citizens of this country. There just needs to be a nice mix, if you have healthcare from a job, cool, you have access to all hospitals. If you do not, at least have access to decent amount of facilities to receive some kind of care.

I think you are getting too advanced for most OT brains

I think most truly believe that there is America: glorious non-socialized medicine, and the rest of the world: socialized hellhole that is obviously worse than America in every conceivable way.

Pointing out that if you went to Japan, England, Switzerland, Germany, Singapore, and Canada that you would get 6 very different systems of healthcare that are only similar in that they provide some level of structurally subsidized and/or imposed comprehensive cradle to grave coverage to everyone in the population would blow their mind.

I 100% support collective healthcare. At a root Christian, human being level, it's dumb to not fund a robust healthcare system to collectively provide for the needs of everyone in a community.

I just don't think it's going to be anything other than a massive cluster for so long as our collectives are filled with people who will cheat the system and be encouraged to do so AND while those same people wage war on those funding the system, etc.

If Jesus was a politician he’d be a communist, but unfortunately that form of government has failed miserably at every stop here on Earth, and always will. People who have much should choose to share for altruistic reasons, that’s compassion, but when the government requires it, that’s communism.

Here is what I think is hilarious for all the knuckledraggers bitching about medicare for all -

Who is already covered by Medicare/Medicade? Two groups of people:
1. The elderly - who, btw, like Medicare.
2. The poor/disabled/jobless

So, we're taking our tax dollars and covering the(most expensive) people that can't pay for themselves while the rest of us fight about what a single payer system would look like.

Spoiler - we're already covering the most expensive part of the population with it...why wouldn't you want to add to that pool and use your tax dollars instead of tying it a job.

People don't like it...but it's coming.

Have you paid any attention to our government lately?

And you want to give them *more* money?

I really wish every one of you people advocating socialized medicine would have to spend one year dealing with the VA for your healthcare.

Advocating for increasing the government's role in healthcare would stop reaaaaaaal fricking quick.

Later, they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to catch Jesus in His words. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are honest and seek favor from no one. Indeed, You are impartial and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay them or not?”

But Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and said, “Why are you testing Me? Bring Me a denariusc to inspect.” So they brought it, and He asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”

“Caesar’s,” they answered.

Then Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

Take the "who" out of the discussion for a second.(in this case medicare) Why do you think this? The same doctors will still be practicing medicine...
