Nah, winter can be rainy at times. Depends on the year. The slushy winters aren't my favorite, I'd prefer 20 and snow to 35 and rain. Even in the coldest winters, we still occasionally get above freezing at sea level.

But, even in Southeast the freezing line is reachable on most days. At 1500' its frozen most of the time.

Its a beautiful place in winter though.

The winter humidity argument is generally bunk.

You can use whatever charts you’d like, I’m just telling you what happened and their reactions.

I’ve also been in dry cold sweating my arse off walking in snow to the point that I ended up in a t-shirt. There is a difference.

I lived in the upper Midwest for 37 years. Not like I don’t know what I’m talking about.

The only real argument is that the cold rain when the temps are in low 30s is worse than than snow and I can generally agree with that.

But here’s the thing, the north gets that crap weather too. In the “spring” when it’s in the 60s down south

But you don't get the crap weather for the length of time we do in the south, assuming you hate hot, ball sweat from satan, weather.

There's a reason why people say they enjoy four seasons, which don't exist in the south.

Hadn't heard that name in a while. One of my very first farm gigs was for an old hippie on his family farm there. Talk about a sleepy little town.

I'm about 15 miles from there. I eat at Dale's Seafood every now and then.

Moved to the south after growing up in Wisconsin. I couldn’t get back fast enough. I work outside and prefer it cold. The first day it gets into the 70’s I start looking forward to when it’s back in the 20’s or teens or colder. If it has to be above freezing then I want it to be shorts and a sweatshirt weather so that’s mid 40’s to mid 50’s.

Shoveling/blowing snow is more enjoyable than mowing a lawn simply because my beer doesn’t get warm.

Me personally, I would take freezing cold over Satan’s armpit any day, but that’s because I grew up in Louisiana and am still here today (blah). Do you Northerners feel the opposite? Do you embrace the heat?

frick the heat. I spent 25 years in that shite and I'm done with it. It gets up to the high 90s, early 100s here for a couple of months and I think even that is too much. It will be in the 100s here this weekend, so we are going to Park City where temps will be mid to high 80s.

I've often thought that Northern Michigan would be a great spot for us. Snow us in, leave me alone.

I can't fricking wait for it to get cold here. I don't like winter, but I certainly prefer any season over summer.

Do you guys dread winter like we dread summer in Louisiana?

Hellll NO! The #1 reason I moved to the mountains of Vermont was to escape the heat from living in La, AZ & SC. The extreme cold in winter does not bother me one bit. I am loving the fact that several days so far this July we have had high temps in the mid-70s and 3 days ago I woke up to 43! Once the temp gets into the 70s I am looking to turn on the AC and avoid going outside. If there is a decent breeze I am okay with mid to upper 70s, but that's my limit. I will take 6 months of below freezing over just 3 months over 80 every single time.

Huh? I live in North Carolina, which is the northern end of the south. A normal dead of winter day is in the 50s and sunny. It’s lovely. We get like 10-15 crap cold winter rainy days a year

I'm not talking about winter, I'm talking about summer.

Summer in the south is fricking miserable.

It gets hot up north too.

It was an 80 degree night in Charlotte. I took a walk then grilled out and ate outside. I do that 75% of summer.

Granted, it helps that my back yard is totally shaded after about 5 pm.

But again, why does summer need to the best season? 9 months out of 12 are far superior down here than the Midwest

We're talking averages. I'll take cold up north over hot down south any day, all day.

I can put more clothes on and be warm. You can get butt arse naked in the south with the heat and humidity and you're still fricked.

Grew up in Louisiana but have been in Wisconsin for a few years. I do not mind the cold - actually kind of like it so far. It will take a while for the novelty of me ice skating on local ponds/lakes to wear off.

I also never really hated hot Louisiana summers. I still find it weird how I can spend all day outside in the summer here are not break a sweat. People here complain anytime it's over 80 degrees which always makes me chuckle.

What is waaaay worse than the cold up north is the short days. I will never get used to going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark.

And what are you doing outside on a 10 degree day in the Midwest in January?

Ice fishing? Snow machining? Hot tenting after a nice snowshoe hike? Hunting?

If you had seen my other post, you'd know I've lived for months never seeing temperatures above freezing, to include -56 degree temps. Not wind chill. Actual temps.

10 degrees is cute.

Charlotte has a good bit more of a seasonal climate than South LA too. We'll go a few months without getting into the high 60s here. It's hot as balls at midnight in July, August and September

I'll just chalk it up to bad luck. A few hundred dollars and a bit of dignity is better than being beaten to a pulp or raped.

I usually go to the Korner Klub or Stacey's since I live in Gallatin Gateway now, but work brought me downtown. Next time, I'll go to the Cannery.

I don’t think you have a typical lifestyle. Cool for you.

But the average northern city dweller is spending 95% of several months indoors.
