Anyone of you baws go to college in the 80s? What was it like? Wild? What were the classes/chicks/greek scenes like? Could you still smoke in class at that point?
I would have to imagine it was one of the greatest times to be in college in America.

Were you just desperate for a thread topic or something?

It was actually pretty lame. I think the 70’s were where it’s at.

My father was in graduate school at LSU during the late 80’s, and the most striking juxtaposition to present day that sticks in my memories was the absolutely enormous amount of students who commuted around campus on these style of bicycles.

My Dad and mother graduated in the late 70's. Dad was a Sigma Nu, my mom was an international student (which was less common at the time). My dad says that fat girls were nonexistent and even some of the most average guys could hook up or date a decent looking girl. Hippie/SJWs were less common at LSU than at other universities back then. Academics were important but LSU didn't have as near as an academic reputation it has now and was a lot more relaxed as a result. My mom originally wanted to go to Tulane or Rice but kind of settled on LSU.

It was still the tits in 83/84! Keg truck in the yard on bid night. Keg in "borrowed" shopping cart down Sorority Row on girls bid day. Quarter beer night at Murphy's. Sneaking into Fred's because drinking age was 18 but 21 at Fred's. Sorority exchange every Thursday. Furniture on the front lawn every Friday. Piledrivers. All the Freshmen were Pre-law/Pre-med. TubMarines. Drinking and driving were "frowned upon". Football team wasn't Great, but we had some fun games.

My college roommate was always complaining we had coeds wearing the knee shorts in the 80’s while the 60’s had free love, panty raids and mini skirts.
I would point out that’s probably the main reason we were able to graduate

Registered December 2021. My sweet summer child.
ETA: I will confirm for you that you definitely go to college at one of the worst times.

Yes.
Drinking age was 18.
Inhibitions were in short supply.
Music was solid - lots of dancing opportunities.
Spring Break was the above...on steroids

70s can’t be beat, there were basically no rules

I'm not sure we had real laws in the 70s anywhere.. Seems like they just made them up on the fly. I rarely saw a cop as a child or teen.

for an engineer the 60's were a huge development time
Started with paper, pencil and ended with TI calculators
Control theory started with pneumatics, went to analog then digital
Applied chemistry was in its last major growth period
Sugar mill/laboratory was still in operation
rotc was a required disapline
drinking was not inhibited and panty raids were a thing
I got a degree that paid for itself many times over

Well I am late 30s so I at least enjoyed my undergrad before woke nonsense fully took over.
These responses are great. Reminds me of the movies which is how I always thought it could’ve been.

I’d like to help you but my college years from 1978-1982 are a still a little hazy. I’m pretty sure beer was a factor.
