Per Andrew Lopez they are listing Herb as a guard in the starting lineup so that he's eligible for one of the All Defense Guard positions, last season he was listed as a forward.

IMO, the original 5 positions are outdated. There are probably 7-8 positions, maybe more. Some lineups only use 3 positions, some use 5.

You keep saying that Herb is a 3, and you keep being wrong.

Herb is a guard. Even the team now officially lists him as a guard. Positions don't really matter in today's NBA, but our real starting lineup looks like:

PG: CJ
SG: Herb
SF: Ingram
PF: Zion
C: Jonas

Yep...and actually, Herb will end up being our main ball-handler. CJ will be the "2"...this will be MUCH better for all concerned and by "all concerned", I mean the entire starting lineup.

No. He is listed as a forward (LINK ).

Hoopreference lists him as a PF and he spent the vast majority of his minutes as a 3 or 4 last season.

I believe his best position is the wing or SF. I also don't believe that SG and SF are the same or interchangeable. It matters the most in how guys fit together. There is definitely some bleed over. But guys always naturally go back where they should.

How many times do you think that group starts together? I'll set the over/under at 32 games..

Doubt he becomes the "main" ball handler, but he will handle it more this year.

Assuming you mean CJ/Herb/BI/Zion/Val...I'd say (barring injury, rest, etc)...that would be our starting lineup ANY time we wish to start our best lineup.

Finishing lineup MIGHT be a bit different...but that would mainly be in regards to our "5" position.

this one?

PG: CJ
SG: Herb
SF: Ingram
PF: Zion
C: Jonas

as many games as those players are healthy will be the number of games they all start together. in a vacuum, 82 games

Right? I'm curious what bmark believes our starting lineup will be, because barring injury, it's what you just listed.

Hmm. It appears that the official listing hasn't changed yet, but a number of people wanted to vote for Herb for the NBA All-Defensive Team and were unable to vote for him at guard because he was listed as a forward, and the team then said that he'd be listed as a guard this season.

I can't find a reference for this, but I remember it clearly.

I've heard Lopez mention it more than once.

Smart & Bridges are probably locked in at 1st team G (although I'm not sure HOW they list Bridges as a G)

J Holiday & especially Thybulle at 2nd team G could be dropped off next year.

Gonna be tough for Herb to go 1st team G...unless they move Bridges to F next year.

Really crazy how Herb couldn't be listed as a guard, yet Phoenix was able to list Paul, Booker, and Bridges as guards.

ETA: and Bam is somehow listed as a forward

Just making 2nd Team NBA All-Defense will result in a lot of recognition for Herb. That's a reasonable goal for next season.

Barring 1 of those dudes out for more than half the season, that starting lineup will start more than any other 5 man starting lineup.

For sure. And if WG is headed where I think he is headed, regarding Herb's offensive game...Herb will have a FULL plate this next year. His D will only get better next year...but he's gonna have to learn "on the fly" at the other end of the court. I'm optimistic...

And now, if we can only get Daniels to develope in his first year... somewhere close to the way Herb has...it's gonna be a very interesting year.

I think they should really just name 5 players. 2 front court, one guard, 1 wing, and 1 swing (g or f)

about hayes.
I always thought he was a reach at 8. too much to learn for pick 1.8.
then he got in trouble with the law.
now I don't trust him as a person.
this colors my choice.
if he looks great in a preseason game I sit him and shop him.

That is not saying much. We had 20-30 different starting lineups last season. I'm sure the most common was in the 20s, as far as total games.

We don't have a deep team and we lean heavy into "load management". I believe Jones and Val will be the only starters to play/start over 60 games. Graham, Hayes and Murphy (maybe Nance) will start double digit games. I'm sure there will be others in and out as well. It happens year after year.

I'm nervous about McCollum playing PG full time. Has he ever done that in the NBA for an extended period of time? How long before they slide him back to SG and go with a more conventional PG (Lewis, Alvarado or Graham)?

I DO think CJ will have his minutes cut back a bit this year. And when/if he "slides" back to SG, which I think he will, I'd bet Herb gets the first shot at handling the Point Guy position. Otherwise, you'll have CJ at 2 and sit out Herb to start Lewis, Alverado or Graham at the PG. Question is: does ANYBODY think Herb will sit while one of those 3 gets the starting nod?

How can we have a deep team when we don’t even have a SG?
