My son has managed a fireworks stand in Austin the last ten years. Yesterday his total holiday sale was only 1/3 of previous years. Looks like money to burn is way down

Well, yeah. When you have to choose between getting to work and eating or 20 minutes of boom boom, it is an easy choice to make.

Hopefully people are realizing that fireworks are dumb and a waste of money.

All fireworks stands near me were packed. And there were fireworks around me nonstop from 8-midnight

It is illegal to shoot fireworks in city limits, and there is a burn ban

My neighborhood was noticeably more quiet than any year I've seen in 20+ years. The fireworks stopped at about 10 PM - they used to go pretty much all night. It was definitely strange.

No kidding. I've definitely passed up both work and food for 20 minutes of boom boom.

There were hundreds of grass fires last night in DFW that directly refute your evidence

Prices were way up this year. That’s the reason I barely purchased any

Speculative business ventures don't always pan out

I would say increasing restrictions on where you can and can't shoot fire works + rainy weekend + a Monday 4th are all the ingredients for a slow year.

Or it could be the drought and fire conditions causing them to ban bottle rockets and missiles with fins or rudders to be sold. Who cares about the rest of the boring stuff?

You think those "bans" actually matter? You should have seen the sky over Los Angeles last night where all fireworks are illegal.
