I’m guessing there was some pyrotechnics that failed because that fat ball of fire didn’t look normal for a show.

Wonder if that triggered him pulling the chute because that’s out and then there’s some flame Burt’s from the truck before it goes into the fireball and flips.

Almost looks like he’s trying to veer right to avoid something on the tarmac, the fireball I suppose.

The fireball had nothing to do with the crash, he was well away from it when the trouble started and it was well off to the side. You hear several pops and as he dropped his chutes (which never inflated) then the explosion. Also, there is no way an experienced drag racer would veer at speed.

Damn. Shockwave is/was a fixture at nearly every airshow I’ve attended

Saw him in Hammond too. That truck was loud.

That sucks. I remember seeing that as a kid. Was one of the loudest/coolest things ever.
