He did. Guy was a friend of mine, awesome guy. Being in the military and planning a few air shows, the circle is small. Awesome guy, awesome family, heavy hearts this weekend.

It looks like there was another explosion in front of him?

Yea, what the heck was that?

I had to rewatch cuz I thought maybe one of the planes crashed in front of him.

That looked like a chassis failure the way it spun like that. Or maybe a power unit that took out some tires. Sucks. I’ve seen that dude a bunch of time.

Remember that woman who used to be on Myth Busters who died going 700 mph or so? Thrill seekers who live dangerously.

Very likely. I’ve seen a uncontained turbine failure where the wheel went through the case, through the cowl and walked down the fuselage chewing up everything in its path.

One of the turbine engines failed which put uneven torque on the truck. That torque introduced a spin which unfortunately was unrecoverable.

Aren’t the engines stacked on top of each other? That wouldn’t affect torque if there isn’t a coupling between the turbines and the drivetrain.

I think it’s a triple pyramid configuration. But I’m unclear if they’re all turbine units.

I thought at one time he had ice to get it rolling but I’m not sure if the current config still had it installed.

I’m not sure but nothing would surprise me from a dude who built a jet powered 18 wheeler. Put in a 16V71TTA? Sure. Add a couple solid boosters? Why not?

I didn’t realize there are are two of them, the Shockwave and the Super Shockwave. As you posted, the Shockwave had three and the Super has two. Both trucks using J34 engines. I guess that could have caused some confusion. The pic I posted appears to be the original Shockwave.

Is this the same jet truck that used to run at big shows at dragstrip? Or at least the same guy with a different truck? There used to be one that came to the track at least once a year, usually on pro mod weekends. It has been years since I saw that jet truck.
