Jefferson Parish should transfer Grand Isle to Lafourche Parish

I’ve never understood why Grand Isle (or not so grand isle ) is part of Jefferson Parish. I’m guessing that it requires more revenues than it puts out for Jefferson Parish, and they don’t even get to benefit from it at all without driving through Lafourche to get to the island. It’s not accessible from Jefferson. Also, how do they handle parish business like town hall meetings, schools board meetings, etc?
As far as sales tax revenue goes, People buy most of their food and alcohol from grocery stores in Lafourche before heading into Grand Isle, so none of those sales taxes go to Jefferson.
It just would make sense to give it to Lafourche in my opinion.

Why go through the trouble when it’s supposed to sink into the Gulf by 2025 anyway?

Louisiana logic. Don’t try to understand it. Just accept it.

And they’ll never let it transfer.

The town of grand isle handles all that just fine. There are two grocery store on the island and a handful of gas stations/smaller stores to buy whatever you want.
Clearly you’ve never been to the island.

i think it was because at the time it was given utility services jefferson was where lafourche got its water. at least thats the story i heard about it.
jefferson paid for and built the pipelines to run water to the island so it fell under they control for utilities management
i agree, today that no longer makes any sense, but it is a much shorter straight line to the island for them then following the areas of dry land and roads to get there so im sure the decision how to do it was all about the money

When everything was divided up boat was probably the fastest way to get there.

Grand Isle was actually in Orleans Parish when there were 12 parishes. Jefferson, St. Bernard and Plaquemines were formed from the original Orleans Parish.

Fun fact: the only parish with its boundaries unchanged from its formation is Plaquemines Parish

Oil and gas revenue.
Look in the spillway at Iberia Parish.
Upper and lower St Martin Parish.

I've been to Grand Isle many times without ever leaving Jefferson Parish using one simple trick.

Well is it much different than Jefferson Parish being a bedroom community for Orleans?

I can recall in the 1980’s/90’s the island running short on water during the summer because at the time Lafourche parish only had a 3 inch line to the island that they would sell to the island in addition to water barges that were sent to the island from Lafite. In the 2000’s Jefferson Parish and the town built a larger line to the island through the bay. Every once and awhile the line gets struck by boats and they have to resort to the Lafourche line and barges.

And the courthouse should be in Metairie and not Gretna. Politics. Ain't gonna change ever.
