I’ve got a 304v8 that I’m currently in the process of rebuilding. Everything mechanical is now fully functional and is as reliable as it was new. Serial number indicates a charcoal gray metallic exterior, options indicate it was a Renegade. Interior will be replaced with black front and rear seats and dash, chrome trim kit with chrome wheels, 33x12.5’s. As this will be a weekend ride would the OT go with the original color scheme or another color / badging option? Just curious before I put the paint gun to it ?

I'd probably go with whatever dark shade of green they had that year.
It's criminal they don't make vehicles in hunter geen anymore.

Go with original would be my choice. I'd like it in almost any color if it's done right though.

Whatever color you go with, may it be absolutely spit shine glossy. What a classic ride. <3 cj7s

I'd go original, but that's just me.

No sir. Original color exterior for sure, Rambler decals and all…wouldn’t put chrome anywhere on it.

Just me, but there is no way I’d ever go with black seats. They soak up so much heat in the sun it’s unreal!!!

My first ride was a '74 CJ5, 304 V8, 3-speed, with Dana 35 front end and Dana 44 rear end. Bought it in 1990. Had it 6 years, sold it like an idiot. Paint was a banana yellow almost. It looked good with those white steel wheels and raised white letter tires and black ragtop/doors. Classic. I'll see if I can dig up a picture.

Go with one of the original colors from 81 and get the renegade decals.
ETA I had a 76 CJ5 and sold it to someone who’s contact info I lost. Also had an 80 CJ5 and still know who has it.
Had the opportunity to buy an 83 CJ7 survivor in February and couldn’t put the cash together quick enough to get it. I remind my wife (no pics) weekly that we should’ve done more to buy that thing.

Chrome kits look cheesy, especially with wide wheels and tires.
Renegades are desirable. Match the paint and decals as new. It will good and hold value better than custom colored paint.
