Isn't the issue refining capacity because of Biden's policies?

What do you think the price oil(gasoline) would be today if Trump had been reelected? At the beginning of the pandemic oil prices collapsed and drilling stopped. Demand collapsed. As things opened back up the supply was not there due to the high decline rates of "shale" wells. At the same time, investors in shale wells saw that their ROI was not what they were expecting and investment money was slowing down.
Now the current administration has done everything they can to discourage oil and gas exploration. They have created a toxic attitude in the oil and gas industry. But even with Trump in office I think we are still looking at oil prices in the $80-100 range. I don't care how many leases are available to drill on if you can't find people to work on the drilling rigs.
It is the perfect storm.

Hollywood went from blackballing communists to only allowing communists to work pretty quick.

Administration’s definable actions / US o&g
Not good for long term US o&g markets. Biden’s new lease and drilling limitations, for example, will impair future US oil supply. Many of his actions will have long term negative impact to US o&g business.
However, oil is a world market (Gas regional). Many factors driving oil price in 2022 are world market driven.
Drilling a deep water well in GoM on the Nov 2021 lease sale assets, for example, would have had nil impact on today’s fuels prices as drilling to production timeline for deep water is years, not months, assuming commercially viable.
The crack spread more likely driven by limited refining capacity when consumer miles driven getting back to Aug 2019 levels. Some profiteering on the street prices as well.
No doubt Biden’s anti o&g stance will have long term negative impact to US o&g. Much of that is long term.
2022’s story, though, is primarily world driven.

I’m sure if we had price controls on gasoline and nationalized all the drilling operations and refineries; we’d all live in a utopia. Is that the point Dean is trying to make?
Are we going to pretend the administration didn’t take a hostile approach to O&G and this might have something to do with O&G not wanting to invest capital into refineries that might be forced offline based on some climate initiative a few years down the road?

if that’s true, then why did Exxon and Chevron fire back at him publicly last week? Do you think they want the PR if his actions aren’t having a major impact on their operations?
And, why did the American Petroleum Institute send a letter on behalf of US Big O&G to the White House making 10 suggestions if it’s “world driven”.
(which btw - Biden completely ignored and proceeded to lash out again at them on Thursday)
Should we also ignore that oil futures have steadily been on the rise, since…..November 2020

I’m not denying it, the O&G companies are dinosaurs when it comes to competitive salaries. My point was, from the folks i know in the industry - this isn’t the biggest factor for them.
