187 Million is good they broke even so not a total embarrassment then. Had it stayed at 51 then it would have been even more humiliating but 187 and looks to be closing in on 200, investors won't be happy BUT they did get their money back. That money did not make money but they didn't suffer a lost.

While it’s a great movie and why it made money was off of over a decade good will being built, a largely silent movie of a robot love story made 520 million dollars at the theater.

Buzz Lightyear on the other hand, probably the single most popular animated character created in my lifetime, can’t even make half that? Yeah, bullshite they’re not suffering a loss. You know nothing about the film industry to think this.

That's actually a pretty good debate. I always liked Woody a bit more actually.

Toy Story was my childhood. I felt like Andy in a way, I pretty much was the sane age as Andy when Toy Story came out. But I think I like quite a few individual characters more than I do Buzz. Wall-E for sure. Baloo, The Iron Giant, Simba Mayne. I'd have to think about it more.

As someone else pointed out: Buzz is the one with the roller coasters and tv show. Woody isn’t.

He's a great character, I'm not denying that I was meaning character debate in general, not just Woody and Buzz.

I like Buzz more, but I do think Woody is the better character and has the better overall arc.

Yeah I don't see how it even breaks even at this point. If this holiday weekend didn't give it a shot in the arm, it's done.

I’m still dumbfounded by how much this movie is bombing. When I saw the teaser in 2021 I said “I’m in… but wait, why the frick is Tim Allen not in this? Well that’s odd, but there’s no way they can frick up a Buzz Lightyear movie.” And now I will never touch that movie with a 25 and a half foot pole. It’s not watching it for free to mock it.

I’m sure it’s been brought up but Disney is way more invested in Lightyear than the $200 million it cost to make the movie. There’s an entire row at Target with nothing but Lightyear toys. That row is full. There’s hardly anything missing. No one is buying this shite. They’re going to end up eating a helluva lot more than ticket sales.

Besides not being good, I can tell you that a black lesbian kiss and couple - even if only onscreen for 5 seconds - alienates, even angers people who aren't just white conservatives.

Just shows how monstrously out of touch Disney is. Not that they give a shite.

They’re going to lose $100M once you factor in costs for marketing, not just production. And its embarassing when you put out a movie of one of your most popular franchises and it bombs at the box office. The last 2 Toy Story movies both grossed over a billion each at the box office, making 5x their production costs.

I know everything about the film industry because that is my industry and Disney is in really great shape right now. Buzz not doing as well isn’t a blip for them. Thor comes out next week so they’ve already moved on.

Losing over $150 mil on one film isn’t a blip. And losing billions in market cap is a real problem. I don’t care whose industry it is.

I don't think it angers most people but it does make many roll their eyes.

You can tell the people who made the movie and the ones who actively defend a bad product think they are on a moral crusade. But they are generally amoral and vacuous people who should be ignored.

It was less worth worrying about when it was less pervasive. It eventually transitions from being not worth worrying about to worth discouraging when the harassment becomes pervasive.

The audience is allowed to have preferences and enjoy a movie without being subverted. This is now about accepting the preferences of the mainstream more than allowing for the preferences of an infinite number of intersectional minority groups.

Tell that to the shareholders whose stock value is down from over $180 last July to $96 now

The money matters but it’s more the embarrassment that will get to management.
Disney is synonymous with animation

Pixar is supposed to be the sure thing within Disney and toy story is synonymous with pixar.

The fact that it tanked and then minions comes right behind it and crushes it is enough to cause some heads to roll at least in the good old days of corporate America.
