I dunno. I follow old row and Barstool U accounts and a lot of college age frat boys are going to see this. Some dressed up as minions, some in full suit and tie.
I’m sure it’s being done ironically somewhat.
I am curious if it’s a bit of nostalgia that toy story is for millennials. Kids that were 6-10 are in college now so it kinda lines up.
Yeah, that’s clearly it. People on here still defend Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and He-Man, and they have not aged well. But nostalgia clouds everything.

This may top Solo as the biggest “Get Woke Go Broke.”
In what way was Solo woke?
I fully support GWGB, but Solo was just a directorial nightmare. There was nothing woke about it.
I feel like Howard turned it into a nice little film despite the problems.

It wasn't. It bombed because it came out right after TLJ, which a lot of people felt was woke.

Solo was the sacrificial lamb to The Last Jedi. They kept calling the entire fanbase a bunch of racists, sexists, and homophobes, and we said “OK, you want to play it that way, then we’re not going to see Solo.”
frick around and find out, Disney. They’re really learning this the hard way, but are now solely focused on targeting a bunch of Woke people in their 20s rather than their bread and butter that is children’s entertainment.

Yeah, but no one over the age of 10 likes the Minions. They’re simply annoying and don’t have a character to speak of. Buzz Lightyear is still popular with many adults.
We're taking the kid to see Minions and enjoy those movies. There are a lot of people who enjoy those movies. I could GAF about anything Toy Story related at this point. Same with the SO.

Gotcha. Yes I agree with that. Solo was punished for tLJ.
I was confused at the implication because the only thing I remember about it was saying Lando was fluid or something but other than that it was pretty normal SW fare.

Just got of minions with my son. Dude there was 2 girls there in there mid 20s that were overalls, yellow shirts, and the the thick horn rimmed glasses
Obviously there are some weirdos which are the exceptions.

Based on the advertisements Minions is also light on the pandering and political messaging.
Seems pretty close to the kind of funny family entertainment that generally appeals to a wider audience.

When you say Teenage mutant ninja turtles didn’t age well, I’m assuming you’re referring to the crap show Michael Bay abortion and not the Cinematic masterpiece that shaped my youth that came out in 1990.

TexAgs mentioned the suit thing about minions and it’s apparently some meme TikTok culture thing that I’m too old to understand.
LINK
ETA: I asked my 15 year old about this and he started laughing and said he and his friends are already planning on seeing it in suits.
I love meme culture sometimes. Even if I don’t understand it.

The cartoon in the 80s and 90s. Just the fights aren’t as good as say they were in Batman: The Animated Series, which aged like fine wine.

Well that’s a tad unfair as B:tAS is the best cartoon ever.
But I was referring to TMNT the movie that came out when I was 8 and was amazing.
Because we are going to have a date at sonic otherwise.

Yeah, the first one was great, but was downhill from there. It’s definitely enjoyable, especially when they were cussing.

I’m pretty sure the Despicable Me franchise is the highest grossing animated franchise of all time.

It might be ice age. Not sure how many films it has though.
Posted on 7/3/22 at 12:24 pm to ell_13
It goes…
1 Despicable Me
2 Shrek
3 Ice Age
4 Toy Story
As far as franchises total gross goes.

Lightyear has been out since June 17th and has a total gross of 187 million. Minions has been out for three days and is already it at 202 million.
Oh Disney
Oh Disney

It’s not even going to make $300 million.

That's real bad. Anyone claiming Disney's gay push had nothing to do with this is a complete fool.
Looking at you, Bob Chapek.

187 Million is good they broke even so not a total embarrassment then. Had it stayed at 51 then it would have been even more humiliating but 187 and looks to be closing in on 200, investors won't be happy BUT they did get their money back. That money did not make money but they didn't suffer a lost.

Nah man. 200M is just production costs. They'd need at least 300M to break even with marketing costs. I'd bet it's even more than that.
ETA: Found an article about this from before it released. LINK
quote:
The general rule of thumb is a movie has to earn double its production budget in order to break even. By that metric, Lightyear needs $400 million globally to recoup its costs.
I don't know how much truth there is to that, but the author of that article seemed convinced Lightyear would have no trouble hitting that mark.
