Where to stay in NYC

We are going in August. Booked The Pearl, wanted something half way nice, but honestly you aren't ever in your room except to sleep.

Ive stayed at the Hilton midtown & the one in Times Square. The midtown location is obviously far nicer and about 2 blocks to Central Park. I feel with your list of places, they’re kinda all over manhattan so I’d tell you to stay in midtown-ish area.

Are you opposed to Airbnb? You could get a nice one in Brooklyn at that budget. We always stay in Brooklyn, Williamsburg is cool, Park Slope is really nice and Crown Heights is nice but may scare suburbanites as it's in transition. It's an easy 20-30 minutes on the train into Manhattan and half the fun of being in NYC is riding the trains. I am sitting in an Airbnb in crown heights typing this and we love it. There are some great parks around the cloistures you should look into checking out. That's the prettiest part of Manhattan and closer to what the island was before the white man came along . As for an anniversary meal, we don't do much high end stuff but One if By Land and Two if By Sea is a popular restaurant for new yorkers on special occasions. I will say for an amazing pizza slice, Pizza Suprema is incredible and for another casual spot Taco Mahal has Indian tacos, get the roti tacos, not the naan, that are great.

Your plans will take you from downtown to almost in the Bronx (at least) so I’m not sure there is an ideal spot for you. I’d probably stay midtown. I’ve stayed in the Lexington a bunch. Convenient to Grand Central. Not sure about $300 a night for Xmas.

You might get something cheaper closer to Times Square. Have occasionally seen decent rates downtown (walkable to 911 and maybe Tenement).

If needed when you are at 911, consider, checking out Museum of American Indian. Free, clean restrooms, right by the battery. I’d also consider Staten Island ferry, though not sure about in December. And I would definitely see a show.

Last weekend we stayed at the Homewood Suites in Mid-town for around that price, primarily because it was close to my daughter's apartment. It ended up being a pretty good location, about 5 blocks from Times Square and a few blocks from Hudson Yards / the Highline. It was also close to Pizza Suprema, which was very good pizza as earlier mentioned.

I like the Benjamin Hotel diagonally across the street from the Waldorlf Astoria.

I was there 2 summers ago and stayed at The Arlo hotel in SOHO. Definitely would recommend but be aware the rooms are small, but priced accordingly. We walked to the 911 museum and Little Italy. Not sure proximity to the other sites you want to see but Cabs and Ubers were very available and we got up into midtown most days. Im sure not everyone would like to stay that far south but we enjoyed it.
