The BR magnets are a pretty decent option if your kid is at least above average intellectually. Otherwise it's private or bust.

The OT talks shite about BR High because some of the kids have purple hair but it's a fantastic academic school.

Yeah, I've been in BR long enough to have a decent run down of it all. I just found it amusing that she wanted to quibble over a highschool district, which in the next decade and a half could be completely different than what it is now, not even considering all of the other options we would have. Fortunately, she did not fight on this particular hill for very long

Check out Long Farm

Be careful about Long Farm. There is a LOT of vacant land around there that could be developed into future hood apartment complexes or shitty DSLD/DR Horton subdivisions, but at least LF is close to Most Blessed Sacrament School.

The closest homicide that occurred close to Tara was several years ago when an Asian girl was shot to death at those condominiums off of Lobdell, close to Towne Center.

Most areas of BR will have some violent crime around them but if you are going to live here and you aren't in a CCLA budget or the like Tara is as good as anywhere.

Uclub if you want your kids to be able to roam the neighborhood play outside past dark.

Oak Hills is good, but the Siegen Lane craziness is close and it gets a lot of through traffic from Perkins, Siegen and Highland road. Oak Hills gets a lot more interaction with the natives, particularly during the summer when school is out.

Why wouldn’t you just move over a hundred yards and send your kids to some of the best schools in the state for free?

Baton Rouge High and Liberty High are the only high schools in the district worth sending your kids to. For middle schools, its McKinley, Sherwood, Glasgow (for gifted), Mayfair is decent (follows the same model as U-High)... If you don't want private, consider BASIS charter.

I’m surprised I haven’t seen Pollard mentioned more. Great established neighborhood that’s much more convenient that some of the others listed. You can get a suburban house size (2500+ sf) in town for a good price.

Had a dude robbed st gunpoint while working in his Osk Hills yard a few months back.

A BRPD detective explained it to be like this. There is s constant flow of traffic back and forth between North BR, and the Burbank area, they are always looking for easy targets along the way.
