Friend of mine used to live in River Bend. I didn’t even like dragging arse out there to visit

Tara is nice and convenient given its price point.

U-Club is St. George for the bus/parish.
Lexington Estates is St. Jude for the bus/parish.

I just went through this. Searched for 8 months to find something we liked. All the newer houses in BR have no lots and in cookie cutter neighborhood. If this is something you are ok with, you can find something for $500k. Rouzan, Preserve at Harveston, Lexington, Uclub, Point Marie, etc.
We liked Tara, but it’s in the city of BR and just wasn’t sure what it would be like in 15 years.
Westminster has a little bit smaller houses, which you can get for $200-$300k, but they are older and need a remodel
Pine Park is the sister to Westminster and has a little bit bigger houses, but needs updating as well.
Pollard not bad, but I think some of the neighborhood deals with flooding and houses are old in there too.
We ended up buying a house off highland near CCLA. Built in early 90’s, 3200 sq ft. $600k

If I sell my house anytime soon, I feel like I should take screenshots of this thread and include them in the Zillow listing

Why? Tara isn't cheap but it's well within OPs price range.

I live in Tara. It was a joke re: all the love the neighborhood is getting in this thread

But they come back down very quickly!
Yeah but still, who wants to live in a neighborhood with a bunch of stiffs?

Ah gotcha. My mom lives right around there too. It's a good location for most of the major employment areas of BR and also not far from decent schools. We are zoned for Tara High though and I wouldn't let my daughter go there

Baton Rouge is a giant ghetto. Go to Livingston or Ascension parish if you value your life.

When we were house hunting, my wife brought up how bad Tara HS was. I reminded her that we currently don't have children, so maybe we could leave the concern about high school zoning for sometime a bit further in the future

Any of the Catholic schools in Baton Rouge should have openings. St Thomas more, St Jude, Our Lady of Mercy, St George, St Aloyisius, they are all good!

Lexington Estates and The Preserve at Harveston. Long Farm is right by MBS.

frick Riverbend. Isolated, surrounded by ghetto
So is the garden district. Actually, it can be across the street depending on where you live.
ETA I know it’s not isolated but I was lazy in my quoting.

The BR magnets are a pretty decent option if your kid is at least above average intellectually. Otherwise it's private or bust.
The OT talks shite about BR High because some of the kids have purple hair but it's a fantastic academic school.

If it is a flood zone, don't buy. This goes especially for areas in the eastern and southeastern areas of the parish. The government here does a shite job with flood control, and it is only getting worse.
