re: LHSAA: The Definition of 'Select' Schools Just Got A Lot More Broad

i will say though, the LHSAA needs to go away from the dome. the select championships showed that to be the case.
There are a lot of negatives about the Dome, from the costs to the location, but it’s impossible to find a substitute or replacement for it.
The goal of every high school player over the last 40 years has been “The Dome”. Very few states have a facility that has hosted so many iconic sporting events. Everyone form Muhammad Ali to Michael Jordan has won a title or championship in the Superdome.
To be able to provide high school kids an opportunity to play and win a state championship in the same venue as so many iconic moments is one of the good things about this state. It’s a shame the select schools were denied that opportunity this past season, and NOLA Covid politics denied everyone a couple of years ago.

would be HYSTERICAL for schools to actually change what students they admit, in order to benefit athletics over academics.
I fully expect some of the yokel districts to do so…

That wouldn’t be anything new.

It's bullshite when Many in a parish of 24k does it, but Southern Lab in a metro of BR has been doing it since its existence is perfectly fine.
Has Southern Lab not been select from day one of the split?

Once had a college coach when asked why he doesn't recruit any Southern Lab players, respond with, "Because they can't qualify"
Which coach? Link? And no, I have 0 affiliation with Southern Lab just hate obscure bullshite swipes at high school kids.

It’s easier to get a non qualifier qualified than it is to get a non player able to play

The four teams that played at Tulane gave it rave reviews. Everyone that holds your opinion has never attended a State Championship game outside the Superdome.

Well this is complete horse shite. Todd black is saying many isn't select because they only get to draw from the whole parish for football and it's not fair for other sports.
How the frick is it fair for other teams for football?

Many can potentially pull athletes from Converse, Ebarb, Negreet, Florien, Pleasant Hill, or Zwolle since none of those schools play football. They only have to take in the athletes who want to play football (and they often end up playing several sports), so they are able to keep their population low. According to the most recent enrollment numbers, Pleasant Hill has 92, Ebarb has 103, Zwolle has 231, Converse has 182, Negreet has 165, Florien has 157, and Many has 372 (only 30 short of playing 3A as it is). So they can basically potentially pull from population of over 1000 kids and are playing 2A.
so not only are they one of the largest public schools in 2a they then get to choose players from another 600 plus. essentially they are choosing from 4-5a enrollment but only having to play 2a. they are the definition of select if there ever was one. they are recruiting athletes from all over the parish to come play football for them.
its horse shite!!
from what I am hearing - it is because the clause is there only for football players and they may not actually have any....

That’s a couple of schools that are 1A sized… I wonder if any of them have ever tried to have football and their school board shut that down?

For reference, Homer is the most recent 1A state champion. They have an enrollment of only 195. Their Claiborne Parish rival Haynesville has only 168 students.
Many gets to stay in 2A, but pull football players from a bunch of 1A size schools. These aren’t Class C schools with 40 students that can barely field a boy’s basketball team.
*Additional reference:
DeSoto Parish is Sabine’s northern neighbor. Both Sabine and DeSoto have similar populations.
DeSoto has three football schools:
1A - Logansport
3A - Mansfield
4A - North DeSoto
Sabine has one football school:
2A - Many

This is fricking BS. So In Bunkie’s 2a district they have to go to division 2 select bc they have a unbalance in race and are required to open enroll to equal that out and yet all they get is basically kids that don’t play sports yet many in that district dresses out enough kids for a 4a team and pulls from every hs in the parish bc no other hs in the parish offers football and it doesn’t count against their enrollment and they stay in 2a. Winnfield in that district does the same thing.

Yep it's horse shite. And I hate the split. I hate many too.

That doesn't make any sense.
The split sports - baseball, football, basketball, and softball - each have an independent bylaw in their respective section of the Handbook that splits the playoffs by select and non-select. There is not one over arching rule. And, because each section and select bylaw is independent of one another then you should be able to classify a school "select" in one sport and "non-select" in the others.

See if Tulane, McNeese, LSU, and Louisiana Tech would host.

What makes Tulane great is that it's a nice stadium built for small crowds. 14,000 at the Superdome or LSU feels empty. 14,000 at Tulane feels like 100,000 because of how tight the sidelines are relative to the stands.

Many would get their shite rocked by St. Charles, Notre Dame or LCA. they couldn’t win shite until the split happened and now they have this huge ego

Can’t wait till they play Newman this fall… and if they love the split like we think they better get blown out

Ive been to state championship games at Dome and at Tulane. Personally preferred the game at Tulane.

This is another attempt to do away with the split.
