There is no such thing as an assault rifle

There is no such thing as an assault rifle. This is a made up term by the communists to make any semi-automatic rifle sound scary.
AR does not stand for "assault rifle". It stands for ARmalite Rifle, because it was designed by Armalite initially.
I realize that most on here know this, but I thought I would play Captain Obvious for a minute.

outlaw semi-automatic .223s!
that's how I read it everytime I see assault rifle in articles...makes it seem so ridiculous.

What about assault hammers? Assault SUVs?

Sounds kinda racist to me.

The term "assault rifle" fits perfectly in Democrat language. It's ambiguous and can be redefine in the middle of a debate. Assault weapon is any weapon because that is the definition of a weapon, its purpose is a tool to assault. They do at least narrow it down to a rifle but that still remains subjective. As we stand now rifles with wooden stocks are not assault rifles and rifles with metal black stocks are assault rifles albeit both can do the same amount of assaulting.

Assault is an action not an object

I prefer the term battle rifle.

@mffisher
Invented for Nazi infantrymen, further developed by the US military, the AR-15 was the Texas school shooter’s weapon of choice….

Liberals are stupid and have zero historical knowledge. the first AR, the AR1 was developed in 1952, long after the Nazis were dead and gone.
It is also important to note that Nazis were socialist liberals.

These are also not “weapons of war”

Actually, Armalite Richfield. It was a division of Fairchild Aviation for weapons development.
And who is the hell would want a semiautomatic in a war these days?

Actually assault rifle originally I believe was used to describe a weapon that had a selector switch and could fire semi automatic or full automatic.
The ar15, which can fire only semi automatic is not an assault rifle.
But it looks scary.

It is not only that. I would much rather have a .762 for fighting a war. With Joe Biden's logic, a deer rifle is a better weapon of war than a .556. A semiautomatic .3006 is much more dangerous than a basic .223 Ar15 any day.
Democrats have zero clue.
Not to mention that a .40 cal handgun is much more effective at close range.

I mean, she is probably referencing the STG-44 which many do call the first “modern assault rifle” but even that claim is dubious at best.

If I stab you in the eye with a butterknife, is it now an "Assault Weapon"?
do we need common sense utensil regulation?

Well if you are talking about close range weapons, give me a shotgun.

The notion that "There is no such thing as an assault rifle" is just silly.
The term "assault rifle" is a direct translation of the German word Sturmgewehr. It was used by the German military during the WW2 era to differentiate the new Maschinenpistole 43 (later re-designated Sturmgewehr 44) from existing German submachine guns such as the Maschinenpistole 40.
vs (not same scale, BTW)
The Sturmgewehr (Assault Rifle) 44 is generally considered the first widely-adopted, selective-fire rifle of its type, and the term "assault rifle" is used to describe firearms sharing the same basic characteristics as the StG 44. Many weapons in the M-16 family clearly fit that description.
One can certainly argue whether the AR-15 is an "assault rifle," since it has no full-auto setting, but many of its cousins in the M-16 family do share the basic characteristics of the Sturmgewehr 44.

quote:Yeah, Fisher is wrong. Obviously, the AR-15 was not developed by Germany. But the AR-15 family is a direct descendant of the Sturmgewehr concept.

You can sense their frustration that the usual playbook of word play, definitions, narratives, and such has failed on this issue.

FN Herstal really needs to change their Acronym for their FN SCAR
