I'm a gun owner - is it really that bad to make a gun registry and require mental screens?

Are you totally against any restrictions?
Can we at least require some kind of mental screening for owning a gun and make sure that each gun is registered?
That would only punish the law abiding citizens blah blah.
First of all, is that a punishment?
We could clean the streets by locking up all these thugs with unregistered weapons. Make owning an unregistered gun a 30 year sentence and if the gun was used in a crim a life sentence.
I don't care about any other issue any more other than preventing more children being gunned down.
Piss on pronouns, stupid arse criminals who can't follow police orders, abortion (you want more unwanted low income babies, whatever), voter ID cards. I DGAF about any of it.
Single issue gun control voter from here on out.

I can’t think of anything worse to “destigmatize” getting help for mental issues than to tell someone “oh, yeah, by the way, if we don’t like your answers we aren’t going to let you do one of the things you enjoy the most”

Registry? Hell no, but maybe there should be a basic training class similar to the Hunter's Ed class before being able to purchase a gun.
