Would you trade 8 for 13 and 15?

I was thinking about this looking at mocks. I have no idea if Charlotte is interested in trading up, but they're the only realistic option for a pure pick:pick trade down scenario. I like the options at 8, but after looking there really isn't a HUGE drop off to 13/15.

You'd still have a shot at 2 of:

Daniels
Mark Williams
Sochan
TyTy
Agbaji
Branham
Dieng
Jovic
Eason

Unless a big name we love falls, yes. I think there’s good value around there this year.

No, we don’t have the roster spots or the room under the tax to draft 2 players

If Temple won't retire and take a front office/coaching role, we can always deal him to a team with cap space for some 2nds

I would be really hesitant, but in fairytale world where you could guarantee that Daniels and Sochan would be there I would do it in a heartbeat.

Willie views Temple like Spo views Haslem.

I would rather trade with the Spurs. Do 8 for 9 and 20.

8 and Devonte for 13 and 15 would be funny

See I don't know why you'd want BOTH Daniels and Sochan

But let's say they're not available at 12. That means you'll likely have a shot at:

Johnny Davis
TyTy
Branham
Agbaji
Williams
Dieng

The contract he signed makes no sense for this role.

Haslem is on 1-year deals for the min cap hit

They are very different players, IMO. Daniels is a bigger guard, probably better at defending 1-3, Sochan is more of a 4/5 ideally who can defend wings and bigs.

2 versatile defenders with major offensive questions...

I see 2 players who have very high potential, that at worst will be useful players because of their ability to defend. You can’t have too many versatile defenders, IMO.

ETA: I don’t see team having offensive issues with Zion, BI, and CJ. Focusing on defensive minded role players should be what we’re doing, IMO. Also, I really don’t have questions about Sochan on offense, the only question is what is his ceiling on that end. He’s going to be adequate, at minimum on that side.

I think TyTy is going to be a solid nba PG for a long time.

But no. Griffin has caused himself more harm than good moving down instead of just standing pat and drafting the best player. Don’t over think it. Just stay at 8, pick Johnny Davis and become a better team immediately.

I don’t like it simply for the fact that teams In the top half of the lottery do dumb shite all the time. Who’s to say we don’t have Ivey or Murray fall into our laps at 8 that we were never expecting. Now if you’re on the clock and no one did anything dumb, and the guys you like are still going to be around, then sure take two swings at it. But we will have to get rid of someone to make space for that extra pick.

Main reason to do this is if we offload Graham / Temple and/or turn one of these picks into a future pick.

It also depends on how we see the prospect tiers this year. If 8 and 13 are comparable to us, may as we consider a trade back to put some of our assets into the future.

Not a total cap clearing move but if we think we can get Sochan or someone else good at 13, or we don’t like who is still on the board at 8, it is worth considering.

Idea would likely be to have contingent trades set up.

If X, Y, and Z players are gone as of 8 but Jalen Duren is there, flip 8 to Charlotte for 13 and 15.

The Pels don’t need more bites at the apple, they need last year to not be a fluke. Don’t get cute and try to outsmart the league, be grateful for the gift LeBron and Russ gave you and pick the right player.

I don’t see a world where Griffin wants 2 more rookies on this team. This team is ready to win now.

If we did do something like this:

He’s dumping at least two contracts so he can add at least 1 vet.

One of the guys drafted would 100% be Agbaji if available because he’s ready to contribute now. The other might be Mark Williams or a Dieng type.
