Especially when the IRS comes asking for their share from the players. And itll probably start when the books of the ones paying the NIL money in the first place get audited.

Sure hope someone is giving these kids advice or at least reminding them they need to pay Uncle Sam now that this is all out in the open and legal.

There are guidelines. The NIL contract can’t be tied to the player’s decision to play for or attend a specific school. And the school can’t broker the deal. What else do you think the NCAA can actually do here?

I disagree, when this was released due to law the NCAA nor schools had any guidelines to work with. If you think was the Aggies did by having "Donors" open LLC to fund $ to players under the umbrella of NIL is how it should be done then fine. But that is why after this signing class there was a deep dive into looking at how this was being implemented and how they are going to in the future.

There’s nothing in my post to agree or disagree with. You said there are no guidelines which is factually incorrect. I asked you what additional guidelines should be implemented.

The guidelines that were issued this May 2022 involving the booster or donors was what I was referring to when I said there were no guidelines when it was released due to the law and not the NCAA creating the system.

So you admit guidelines were issued while simultaneously saying no guidelines were issued?

ETA: All that was done in May 2022 was provide guidance on what was put in place on 7/1/21.

do you have an answer? Everyone seems to think it’s a black & white issue yet no one can come up with a viable solution.
It is incredibly simple. Follow the model in four easy steps:

First, you form a league: FBS, P5+G5, P5 alone, whatever. Form a group of conferences or teams. The conferences and broadcasters can hash this out.

Second, you form a players' union. The players on the teams in the league vote to form a union.

Third, the players' union hires attorneys.

Fourth, the attorneys for the league and the attorneys for the players' union hammer out a collective bargaining agreement.

I expect that college football will become some type of lower level league with salaries and a salary cap. Players will have to sign contracts.
You expect things to happen that only exist in your head?

It appears that the local sports fan knows this, But as I have commented before, We are the ones that is being screwed by the new sports world. Surprising the ones in charge do not care what the opinion of the sports fan is.

Fix it by allowing the NFL to create "minor league" teams that pay players that are looking to ascend to the bigtime teams. College football will go back to being actual student athletes and a lot of the problems associated with athletes that attend college solely to reach the professional ranks of their sport would lessen significantly.

I love college football. I prefer it to NFL all day every day. I also love our colleges and universities as places that are primarily concerned with education and see athletics as a supplement to that primary responsibility.

I'll sign off for a while now and allow the downvoting to commence.

agree to a point but also feel 8&4 will be the place where reality meets the road. High paid players aren’t going to be team players or work as hard. Which will result in piss poor outcomes versus the money they paid for those players. Plain and simple.

All you have to do is buy more players the next year. Think of how many 1st round picks work out in the NFL. Now consider an NFL team who could basically buy 7-10 1st round picks every year so if you get them to campus and they bust, just buy 10 more next class.

In 2-3 years, A&M will have Alabama’s roster of talent and they only had to buy it for 2 seasons.

This is not college football. It’s minor league football.

NFL 2.0.

Hard pass.

Players have been getting paid for decades. You just didn't see it out in the open. Things will change in CFB, but this overly dramatic lament on the "end of college football" is absurd.

I'm guessing many on this board are too young to remember when blacks were banned from college much less playing football. You don't think there were people saying This is the "end of college football" b/c of integration?

CFB is more popular than it has ever been.

Change is in the air, get over yourself.

You have coaches tampering with players that aren’t in the portal. Professional sports leagues don’t even allow that. It’s usually a massive fine when teams are caught. I

Yeah you’re exactly right, the NFL is a structured business with the organization and the players acting as employer and employees.

Most of us knew this would end up this way b/c the reasons AGAINST the NIL/Portal greatly outweigh the reasons FOR the NIL/Portal. These young players are easily enticed with big money from large programs who have deep pocket Alumni/Boosters that have Zero qualms with throwing mega cash at the country’s elite prospects.

The NCAA now has a big problem that’s getting even bigger everyday and it’s extremely upsetting for life long college football fans…. Because everyone knows that they can’t put the toothpaste back into the tube now.

This would be interesting but the product on the field would suffer greatly. All the 5 and 4 star recruits going to the minor league NFL leaves you with the XFL as the new college football.
